I always thought that when you cash in FF miles, you can only get tickets for family members (I may be wrong, though).

It's done on an hourly basis....Miles, upgrades, yes AA VIP's, right there in DALLAS!!!!! Our of curiosity, I called a number I was given and would be offered $200 for each VIP....But to answer your question I have never nor would I.......look at craigslist....

We have been buying VIP upgrades (for intl) for years... mostly off eBay.
I never look at the 'wanted' ads and just happened on this one.
I have loads of miles and it's attractive, I must admit.
I just would not want to deal with the person and since I am a travel agt (technically) I could see this turning into a babysitting situation.

Selling or bartering FF miles is explicitly against the terms and conditions of every FF program I know.

People who are caught doing so usually have all their remaining miles confiscated, and any tickets acquired with "bought" miles are canceled.

It does indeed happen, but increasingly the airlines are baiting places like eBay and Craigslist to catch the perps.

Can you "gift" trips to people using your miles? Sure, anybody. But the key word is "gift." Many people have "sold" plain white envelopes with upgrade certificates included as a "gift" for hundreds of dollars, but the airlines are on to that game, too.

You might not get caught the first time or the second, but the odds shorten dramatically the longer you play the game.

And for TxTravelPro, watch out on the bought eVIPs. AA has begun implementing real audits on their use, even in "swaps" arranged through other well-known websites with initials like F and T.

My TA there in Dallas knows of a guy.He had some client of his office have her account bashed for like 150K and her husbands for a lie amount cuz they were caught by AA selling their miles. Dont know what the going rate is tho.

Due to the sensitivity between my company and AA, we actually discussed the VIP Upgrade situation with AA and they did not care...
Like I said, we have been doing it openly for years.
It appears AA knows someone will use these... and if the Exec Plat gets a little bonus each year for being a loyal customer, so be it. It just reinforces the loyalty.
The miles thing I honestly never thought of until today.
I could give them to her if I want. I can give or gift miles to anyone I want, anytime I want... it's the financial gain that is the problem.
No plans to do it... but it was a interesting thought.

There is a "Coupon Connection" forum on flyertalk.com. I have never used it, but browsing the listing, most are vouchers or miles swapping, and no cash changing hands.

My son works for a major airline and they are currently cracking down on a guy who is doing this on a large scale. They have already frozen his FF account and that of his wife. Apparently he is doing this through a third party (a commercial company who needs seasonal workers in a very remote place.) The airline has also threatened to cut off all credit for the company if they look the other way and allow this guy to market those cheap tickets (i.e. FF tickets) to their seasonal employees.
