Thanks again for more details! I'll look into Junipine too. We'll be there September 18 and I think I'd like to stay somewhere with a/c, just to be on the safe side.

You are making a big mistake trying to see all of Sedona in one day, I live in Sedona and work in the hospitality industry and everyone tells us as they leave after one night"We should have booked for a longer stay".

I've followed Bill's postings for years and I sort of doubt he is planning on trying to see all of Sedona in one day. My sense he is passing thru on way to GC and wants a quiet place to stay for a night w/peace, quiet, and views, and maybe a little hike thrown in.

AdobeH, emd is correct and seems to be reading my mail! Nowhere did I say that I wanted to see all of Sedona in one day. I'm not as stupid as some of your guests apparently. Do you have any hotel recommendations?

I think AdboeH is new here and probably just doesn't realize how this forum works best. Don't assume anything. And certainly don't chastise anyone due to your own biases, whatever you think of their plans. AdobeH lives in Sedona and that is nice, he/she can give helpful advice when asked. But not everyone needs to spend a lot of time there. It's ok to stay a night on the way to the GC. I'm sure the hotel owners in Sedona are happy to sell a night. It's a lot better for the Sedona economy than the tour buses that go in and out of uptown Sedona each day w/day trippers.

Bill, let us know where you end up. I am always taking notes on Sedona accomodations, esp. now that the city has an ordinance re no weekly house rentals.

If you want views and a balcony, this is the place you want. On the road going up to the airport. Great views, lovely gardens, pool, spectacular views across the valley.

Thanks JT. Sky Ranch Lodge looks like a great place for one night. Isn't there a hiking trail nearby?

iamq..
Just my two cents on the Sky Ranch Lodge that the view might be stunning but the rooms and beds are SO dated..
I really thought it was a boy scout camp and the airport is across the dirt road so you get all the airport noise and fumes..
I get my views on Sedona not sitting in my room all day but hiking and being outside..
As I get older, I want a luxurious bed with great linens..of course, I want a good rate..all the rooms I have stayed in Sedona have wonderful views..

Bill, I am staying at Sky Ranch Lodge this April, after staying at Enchantment twice, Garland's once, Junipine 5 times, Hilton, several rent houses for a week to two weeks at a time, and numerous other places like the Hilton and Desert Quail Inn inside and just outside of Sedona.

I'll post right after that trip and tell you what I thought of Sky Ranch. I have stayed in some really nice places in the Sedona area. Sky Ranch has come at very high recommendation to me, if you can get the private cottages or other rim view rooms w/private patios overlooking the red rocks. This is because that property has one of the best high views available of the red rocks. Yes, it is certainly more rustic than Enchantment, but Enchantment is usually over $500 a night, and Enchantment is also remotely set in Boynton Canyon, which may not be the best location for you for one night. I have been assured form friends who know my taste that Sky Ranch is a great place to stay for views and comfort- not 5 star comfort, but great for Sedona.

The nice thing about Sky Ranch is the nice location along with the views there. It is on the Airport Rd., which is where we have chosen to rent all of our rental homes we've had in the Sedona area. Great location, easy access to the rd 89A for restaurants and shopping, but once you start climbing that airport rd. you feel miles away from it all and have a great view from up high.

Hilton is also nice. It is in the Village of Oak Creek about 6 miles before Sedona proper but has red rock views, overlooking Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock in the distance from some rooms w/private balconies. And it has a very very nice indoor pool.

Oh, about the hiking trails nearby Sky Ranch:

I have rented houses many times up in the Airport road area. There is a nice "Airport loop" trail just up the road from Sky Ranch. It is about 4 miles long, but you can just do part of it easily, lots of nice vistas. And there is also a lookout hiking point just up the airport road from Sky Ranch. There is a set of big rocks there where people scramble up to the top- lots of fun, esp. around sunset.

Right across 89A are many hiking trails, trails that start at end of Soldiers Pass Rd.

Sky Ranch is a good location for hiking. Esp. if you are only in town one day/night. It is also close to the "Y" in Sedona, where 89A and 179 converge, but far removed since it is going "up" to Airport rd.

One other thing. I understand that TahitiTams is excited to have gotten a great rate for his/her stay at the Hyatt. But I wonder if TahitiTams has really walked around and seen the accomodations and grounds at Sky Ranch, or is saying it looks like a Boy Scout ranch from just driving by it. I have close friends who have stayed there, close friends I have traveled with, and I visited them when they stayed at Sky Rach and while I was in a rental in Sedona, and from what I saw of their rim room it looked nice enough to me to consider staying there myself. Those friends thought it was clean and nice. And comfy- not 4 star but nice and comfortable.

And btw, there are no fumes or noise to speak of from the Sedona airport. It is a really small airport, only a few very small planes take off and land each day. I can tell you that in the 6 weeks of rental time we have spent in that airport area in rental houses, we have never heard any planes or had any fumes- and we've spent hrs. in the hot tubs outside those rental houses very close to the airport.

Hi emd..
Glad you are such a fan of the Sky Ranch Lodge and nothing personal, which I see you are going that way..
Been to Sedona about 15 times and have walked the Sky Ranch and the views are great and let's call a spade a spade though emd..it's across the street from the Sedona Airport..No, it's not JFK but when I think of Sedona, I don't think of the airport across the street..maybe I caught everything at a bad time..the diesel fumes do not do well with me..
Anyway, I did get a great rate of $119 for a studio with kitchenette but being upgraded to a 2 bedroom at the Hyatt which I have never stayed in town but looking forward to it..
Having lunch at Yavapai at Enchantment and just doing lots of hiking and enjoying Sedona.

Just had to laugh at this post from you emd..

Maybe you should follow your own advice to Adobe that you give..don't chastise anyone due to your own bias..

Bill, I wish you all the best!

I've been trying to find the hotel we used. Simple. West Sedona. Nothing fancy, but definitely clean - and one of the few places I've ever felt was well maintained enough to use the hot tub.

If I go back on a moderate pocketbook and want a view, I'll stay at the Best Western Arroyo Roble.

Well, I think decided to stay at the Briar Patch. Thanks Francie for the recommendation. It looks like a great place and I like that breakfast is included. Not sure which unit to pick, they are all available except Acorn and Deckhouse. Now all I have to do is decide which cabin. Thanks to all for the help.

We are planning to spend one day and one night in Sedona on our way to Phoenix from the Grand Canyon. We've been there before (lovely!!) and have taken the Pink Jeep Tour and wandered around the shops. This time we will spend the day enjoying the scenery, exploring the shops again, having a nice dinner, and really just want to find a nice, clean, updated hotel to spend the night before we leave for Phoenix late morning. Any suggestions?
