I've been to both towns recently, and there is no contest in my book. Santa Fe gets my vote. Sedona, the town is very touristy, and you'll have to drive outside into Oak Creek Canyon or west toward Jerome to get away from the traffic and strip malls. Enchantment Resort, which gets 4 stars, but does not deserve the rating, is the best rated place to stay. The restaurants are not as good as Santa Fe either. Santa Fe is a much more walkable town with wonderful restaurants and lodgings right in town. Inn of the Anasazi is a romantic, classy, and very convenient hotel right off of the Plaza, close to the museums, art galleries, and shops. If you have a car, I'd drive to Bandolier National Monument. Sedona is more for the backpacker who wants to hike the canyons. Santa Fe has something for everyone.

Another vote for Santa Fe! Have been to both places and find there is much more to do in Santa Fe than Sedona. Sedona it beautiful with its unusually-shaped red rocks. We did some hiking and exploring, but found that we needed to travel distances to see other things. Santa Fe is a charming city with many cultural offerings, fantastic arts and crafts, great restaurants, etc. It also had numerous places to drive to within an hour or so. While I would return to Sedona for a short visit, I would love to go back to Santa Fe for at least a week.

Santa Fe, Santa Fe, Santa Fe! There is no place like it. It's beautiful with great culture, food, art, hiking, physical beauty. I spent a week in Santa Fe and a day in Sedona and felt the time was about right.

Sorry Guys... I LOVED Sedona. The Alma de Sedona Inn. Awesome, peaceful, quiet, lots to do if you want to drive around and see other things. The back way mountain drive to the Grand Canyon through Flagstaff was perfect.I don't reccommend downtown sedona, but the restaurants and shops in West Sedona were great.
