Sedona / Santa Fe itinerary help

Hi All,

My wife and I are in our early 60's and have eight full days to explore Sedona and Santa Fe. We like light hikes and sunsets, not too big on museums or art galleries. We think we'll see Bandelier and a few similar sites around Santa Fe and some more in Sedona. We like to drive to a beautiful spot hike a mile or two then off to another spot.

Are we biting off more than we can chew?
Thanks, Truckinbob

It's doable but with most of a day's drive between, my suggestion would be to explore one area or the other. There's certainly more than enough to keep you interested in either locale.

Are you flying in and out of certain cities or driving? What is your starting point? It all makes a difference in whether or not you are taking on too much. It's only a 6 hour drive between Sedona and Santa Fe via I-40 so that in itself is not what I would consider a problem. If you are flying in and out of major cities in the area, I would recommend using PHX and ABQ as your cities. Fly into one and out of the other and it minimizes your driving and backtracking.

Hi Guys! Both are lovely places and a beautiful drive between the two. Not sure what time of year you are planning on traveling, but keep in mind both places in the summer are warm. In Sante Fe the Drury Inn is very convenient location to walk to the historical areas. What was most fun for us when we stayed was the roof top pool/hot tub/bar. The views of the sunset there were amazing.
On your drive to Santa Fe is Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument a very cool place to stop. Prior to that you could choose to drive through Painted Dessert, Petrified Forest and Canyon de Chelly. The first two have wonderful lookouts and the third can have arranged tour/hike for a great experience. A lot of this will follow along Route 66 - which in itself is a fun road trip. Sedona has a wonderful Inn L'Auberge de Sedona nestled along a creek.
Good luck in your travels!
