Sedona, Jerome and Grand Canyon - THANK YOU ALL!!!

Just got back from the most amazing trip and I want to thank all of you that helped with hints, restaurant suggestions and travel itineraries!!! What a wonderful time we had... it was SO hard to leave the beautiful warm air, red rocks and magnificent Grand Canyon views.

I have blogged and posted a few pictures (722... trust me, that's severely weeded out), so please visit if you get a chance:

Will be glad to answer any questions if you plan to head that way!

Where did you stay in Sedona? Where did you eat? Do any hiking? Any helpful hints?

We stayed at The Ridge on Sedona Gold, a Diamond Resorts property (timeshare). We ate at The Coffee Pot (known for their 101 omelettes)... decent food, but nothing noteworthy. Breakfast at The Blue Moon Cafe was GREAT - very down-home diner style with very good food. Judi's - got take out lunch there - very good sandwiches. The Fork In The Road Bistro - FAB-U-LOUS! Our best dinner out, in fact. Second best meal was in Jerome at Quince.

We hiked the Airport Loop (3 miles)-plus to the top of the 'vortex' rock, and around Oak Creek in the Crescent Moon picnic area. Spent 2 days and 1 night in the Grand Canyon and hiked a lot there.

My online daily blog is at the link above and will give more details about all of this. I brought back menus and flyers from things if you need more detail.

Glad you got to spend the night at GC. I am sure it made your time there more enjoyable.

Thanks for reporting.

Jef, we did the Broken Arrow Tour - it was FABLOUS! It goes where your vehicle can't, so unless you want to do a major trek in, this one gets you up (and on) big rocks, and next to some amazing red rock walls (see my pics).

starrs - yes, that was incredibly funny seeing 'Santa Claus' in Sedona! At least he has good taste in vacation spots

We only have a day or so in Sedona and then a day in Flagstaff and Grand Caynon on the way to Las Vegas. Any tips on must see and do things in such a short period of time? I'd love to see the Chapel of the Holy Cross....Thanks.

Great report...I was touched that you cried when you saw GC...I grew up in Arizona so I never had that reaction. The day we left Yellowstone after a week there, I'll admit to shedding a few tears. I felt like I was leaving a friend not knowing if I'd see them again. I've felt the sadness of a vacation ending but shedding tears over a place was new to me. We can still grow even as adults.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your adventure.

bdbrooks, here are some things I think are must - dos for a very short trip:

Pink Jeep Broken Arrow tour
Definitely the Chapel of the Holy Cross
Red Rock Crossing
Drive Oak Creek Canyon (you will do that on your way to or from Flagstaff)
Sunset on airport mesa (the first overlook) and sunrise at the second overlook.
Short hike up Boynton Canyon, taking the Vista Trail to the vortex spot.
