Sedona & Grand Canyon

Hi,

I am thinking about going to Sedona and Grand Canyon in October, can anyone tell me how the Bright Angel Lodge in the Canyon is and the Hilton Sedona is?

No replies yet? We were in both locales two years ago and enjoyed the spectacular Grand Canyon and quirky Sedona. Many places to stay of course...for us Yavapai Lodge at GC and in Sedona a nice secluded B&B. Did lunch at Bright Angel Lodge and it looked like good place to stay.

I didn't stay at the Hilton but if I remember correctly, it turned the "Y" into an "X".

It's directly in the center if that means anything.

I stayed at the BW Inn of Sedona that's very close to the Hilton and on the same side of the road.

It had been recently renovated and had the look & feel of a new place.

Great views from the "back" patio.

It is the Hyatt timeshare Sedona that turned the Y into an X, not the Hilton.

There are loads of properties in Sedona so there is a lot of competition and brokers who can get deals. We rented a 2br timeshare at Sedona Summit through Krazy Kyote for ~$120/night. That's correct. 2br condo. List price on the SS website was ~$400/night. No timeshare presentation required.

The Hyatt is offering 1br rms for $45 if you take the 90min tour.

The Hilton is a nice property, but not right in Sedona.

At GC, Bright Angel is a nice, older building. The location is great - right on the rim, close to mule rides, hiking trails, bus stop, gift shop and several restaurants. You can see the condors circling right out your window overhead. Rooms are smaller, but if 1 queen bed is ok for you then it's a great location.

The Hilton is actually south, in the Village at Oak Creek. It's relatively new and very near the Sedona Golf Resort, one of my family's favorite places to play. If you plan to wander around Sedona, you'll need to drive into town about 20 minutes each way, which means steady traffic up and back.

I read the post regarding the X into the Y and vice versa. Can someone explain this to me please?

Also, how do you get the deal at Hyatt for $45/night w/ the presentation?

Thks.

We stayed at the Yavapai during our trip to the Grand Canyon...what I remember most about that vacation is how clear the night sky was. It seemed as though you could see every star in the Milky Way! It seems as though the Bright Angel Lodge is in the same area as the Yavapai, so you too should have this beautiful view. Seeing the night sky is worth every penny you spend at the Grand Canyon!

We stayed at Bright Angel and I have to say it was such a classic Grand Canyon experience for our family. I have such fond memories of that place! I am a bit spoiled when it comes to hotels & I am not a fan of camping, but I loved this place! Zero luxury; just basic outdated, clean cabins; but the location is so incredible! It felt to me just the type of place you should stay at the Canyon.

Depending on your location, you may have a direct view of the canyon; we did not, but it was just a few feet to roll out of bed & watch sunrise & also sunset over the canyon....we still talk about this incredible thunderstorm that greeted us on our arrival to the area...it rolled around in the canyon for hours...what a sight!

No info on Hilton Sedona....we stayed at Enchantment Resort which was incredible! Look around; you might find a bargain rate there....we did.

Bright Angel is an historic one-story lodge that sits right on the edge and is very appropriate to the canyon. It is rustic and simple, but the rooms were recently refurbished (early 2007). The rooms in the lodge itself (with interior corridors) are quite small and some do not have ensuite bath---the bath or shower is "down the hall". There are also cabins, which do have baths. We haven't stayed in those, but people like them alot. Some are right on the rim with a canyon view.

It is a good choice for location, price, and a sense of history. But is it not anything like a Hilton.

Where Highways 179 and 89a intersect within Sedona there is considerable road improvement going on, including the replacement of traffic lights with roundabouts. At this time, one roundabout has been completed and stoplights have been removed. The construction of the second roundabout is underway. The so-called Y will be no more when this project of the Arizona Department of Transportation has completed its work.

Today traffic flows easily past this intersection, backup delays have been eased, and the outlook for completion is sometime in the next 60 days.
