We've spent a day on Ilse au Haut- went over on the mail boat, and frankly, it was TOO isolated/quiet for us. Glad we did it, but not sure it's worth doing again. We like to spend the day hiking, and picnicing with a view, but then go to a nice restaurant for dinner. Stonington was nice, but only slightly less limiting. Others might appreciate the solitude, though!

Stonington is the home of the world famous (well, to all the members of OUR family wherever they may be in the world!) Fishermen's Friend Restaurant. It is wonderful for fresh seafood, as well it might be as Stonington is still a working port.
Anyone in town will tell you where this unpretentious Mom and Pop place is found. The fish sandwiches, real milk shakes, homemade pies and excellent chowders are worth a trip. If memory serves me there is also a very fancy newer restaurant just outside town, too, but we have our loyalties...
