Seattle Hotel - Paramount or Andra?
My husband and I will be making our first trip to Seattle in October - I have a conference at the convention center and he is coming along for fun. I have a booking at the Paramount Hotel for $164/night through my conference and it seems like a great location for the convention center. However, I am intrigued by the newly renovated Andra Hotel and I can get a room at a comparable rate. We like hotels with cool design and it seems like a fun location. How long a walk would it be to the convention center? Which do people recommend?
Thanks!

I don't know much about either of those hotels but I just got back from Seattle and we stayed at The Inn at the Market - what a great hotel - service was wonderful, the deck at the top was great for drinks at sunset and the location is right across from Pike's Market which is ideal - it was also reasonably prices when booked through a discount hotel web site.

This is a no-brainer. Between the two, the Andra looks fab, it's hotel restaurant will be open at the end of the month. 'Lola' is a Tom Douglas restaurant, which means something. The rooms are brand-new -- how can you go wrong? I believe the Andra is expecting to be classed as a solid 4* property, where as I think the Paramount may be a little less than that. I haven't stayed in their rooms, but their lobby is less than special. Also, I don't see that the Paramount has a cool design... the rooms look quite traditional, actually. That said, their restaurant 'Dragonfish' IS pretty cool. Pan-Asian influenced dishes, reasonably priced, good after-work and evening crowd. I think their food is unusually good value considering the prices in most Seattle restaurants. This is a casual place though, not a place for a romantic dinner.
The Hotel Monaco is not as cool as it used to be, as their rooms were recenty remodeled and are more conservative. Very hip rooms can still be had at the W, and the Hyatt's rooms are modern and luxurious (perfection, actually). These will most likely not be in the same price category, unless you're able to book the Hyatt or Monaco through Hotwire (you can investigate that at www.betterbidding.com).
The Andra is a little far from where you'd probably like to be for the convention, but conveniently located for Belltown restaurants (if I recall correctly).
There are a lot of GREAT hotels in Seattle, but I've never had anyone recommend the Paramount to me. I always dig through Tripadvisor rankings and ratings before making a hotel decision in a new city. You might want to check there before making a decision.
Have fun.
