Schaumburg to Navy Pier
We are going to Chicago tomorrow, staying in Schaumburg, my husband has a meeting and I'm shopping. On Wednesday we are going to go to Navy pier to meet some family. What is the best way to get down there, we are thinking about taking the Metra. That takes us to Union Station according to the schedule. How do we get to Navy Pier? I read information about some trolleys, do they go that direction? About how long will it take? Thanks for any info.

Definitely take the METRA train into Chicago. Did that last week from Naperville. We went to the Art Institue for the Touluse-Latrec exhibit and just walked the ten blocks. We passed under the El twice in that time. Check the CTA website for which line goes to Navy Pier.

First go to Metrarail.com for the train schedule. You will probably need to drive to the station. I assume your husbands meeting is in one of the office buildings on the northside of town. The train station is on the southside. So, maybe he could take a taxi or hotel shuttle to his meeting. It would be cheaper and easier than for you to take a cab to the train station.
Then you can take the yellow trolley (free!!!) right form the train station to Navy Pier.
Go to this site for full details on the trolleys.

Sorry it's so long, but it's buried in the City of Chicago's web site.

Just an FYI for anyone wanting to post a link that has a long URL. You can go to www.tinyurl.com and paste the long web address into their box, and it will return a very short link to use instead.
