Dang, we are one funny bunch, LOL :D :D :D :D :D

Had it been an interview, your faithful reporter would have asked the question on everyone's mind: "A camel?" However, this was just an email, and I cut and pasted Scarlett's exact message. We'll have to wait until she reads this thread to find out about the camel, but I suspect Jocelyn is closest to the truth.
Scarlett also said they were doing about 600 miles per day (Go, Yankee!), with plenty of breaks for Pup to have a walk, and that Nebraska was cooler and beautiful. |
Just spotted heading west on I-80!
http://www.historyplace.com/unitedst...ange/dor41.jpg Looks like Triple-A road service just showed up… |
Several possibilities re the camel:
1) It only LOOKED small in comparison to the bison, but was in fact a normal-sized camel. 2) It was actually a llama. 3) Or a particularly furry donkey. 4) They took a wrong turn and are currently in the Sahara desert somewhere. 5) Pup has been smoking something he shouldn't. As I post this I'm looking at Scarlett's original post, in which she speculates as to whether they will arrive sane. Maybe this question should be revisited - ? :) |
Two things I've noticed . . . many tiny zoos have a camel (or two), and the camel is usually named "Humphrey."
|
Meesthare - LOL!!! :d
|
My daugher is wondering what the heck I am laughing at!
It should be interesting to hear all the details when she arrives, lol! |
CAMELS in Nebraska? :D Who knew? ;;)
|
Rather like the alligator (or was it a croc) they recently found in a pond in Queens!
|
Horse with scoliosis? OWJ, you must post today on the "what's your poison" thread!
I was shocked to see camels rides and runs at the Palm Springs Date Festival in February. So this is where they keep them the rest of the year - roaming all over the country! Is Scarlett's pup now a camel-wanna-be? |
Meesthare--I award you funniest poster award 8/5/2005
:D |
Why, thank you! [bowing modestly]
Elizabeth - I'm trying to imagine a tiny zoo. Is that anything like a flea circus? |
Meetshare! :D :D
|
…just checked my book of little dromedaries and noted there is a tiny species that migrated to Nebraska after slipping through the Iowa needle…
|
Marilyn: Read this thread only part way late last night, so didn't get to your post until this morning!
Thanks so much for the update! "Curious people want to know"! As for camels in Nebraska, I seem to recall reading somewhere that when they were building the transcontinental railroad, they had to use camels for the desert portions - Model Ts hadn't been invented yet and they couldn't ship by rail because they were building the RR! The camels were used not only as transport animals, but also by the tent city dwellers - the gamblers, the prostitutes, the saloon keepers, (the flea circus operators?), etc. who followed the RR workers and set up tent-keeping along the way. A lot of the modern cities and towns along the prairie and desert are leftover from those wonderful fun days. Marilyn: tell Pup "woof, woof, woof" (please put on the sunglasses, Pup! It may be cooler in Nebraska but the sun can still be awfully bright!). |
Well Benicia, CA had camel races for several years on their waterfront green but think they have been cancelled due to lack of liabiity insurance.
Benicia use to have camels, so why not Nebraska, LOL! Scarlett sounded to me like they are really having a fun trip. Yankee is making good time. Do you think they did end of in the Sahara Desert and he is afraid to tell Scarlett???? |
LoveItaly, we can only hope that they are having as much fun on their trip as we are having talking about it! :)
|
"Is Scarlett's pup now a camel-wanna-be?" Could be, he's large enough to ride...or, perhaps Pup was smoking camels :-?
|
Maybe the camels are there for a production of the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular? They could be just hanging out til the show starts, lol!
OWJ and Meetshare--Hilarious!:D |
LOL, we have to keep this thread topped, Scarlett is going to love it! Not sure about Pup and Yankee however.
