Scarlett Takes a Big Trip

This is just to say goodbye. We (Pup and the Yankee and I) leave tomorrow morning for Portland Oregon...by car...will we arrive sane? will we arrive in the same car? These questions and more will be answered in a month or two
I want to thank everyone for the advice and good wishes. Pup thanks you too.
Take care, and be on the lookout for a small black car with two wild eyed humans and a grinning brown pup in the back..coming to a highway near you!
Look out Ga, Tn, Mo, Ut, Ne, Id and wherever else we manage to find ourselves ~
Oh and where is that Big Ball of String?
Muchas hugs to all my FodorFriends!
Scarlett

If by chance you're delirious and passing through Atlanta, let me know. I'll try to make the stop more interesting...or more boring, depending on your perspective

We'll miss you but can't wait to hear about the further adventures of Scarlett O'regon, Yankee and Pup.

Scarlett, Yankee and Pup, best wishes to you as you all start your journey west to your new home. I'm sure you will have some amusing and interesting experiences to share with us as soon as you are settled in. We will all be looking forward to hearing from you in a while.

Have a safe and pleasant trip!

Scarlett, Yankee, and Pup:
Safe travels, easy riding, nice hotels, and easy moving into the new place in Portland. Jacksonville's loss is Portland's gain.

Have a safe journey and may your furniture not be too far behind you..or is it ahead of you? Let us know when you "land".

Have a safe trip! How about the biggest basket building? Or the big steel cow? Such great sights to see, lol!

Wow!! What an adventure!! I would never have what it takes...would have shipped the car and flown, but think of all that I would have missed.

Have a great trip! Give our regards to Portland...we will return there someday. And after you settle in, if you go down to McMinnville and see a retired couple out with an insane Moluccan cockatoo, say hello to my husband's parents...

I did the cross-country move once, from Bev Hills to NYC, and I did it alone. Apart from the breathtaking views through and around the Grand Canyon and the fabulous cowboy boots and hat I purchased in Cheyenne, Wyoming, I remember the trip being one I'd rather forget and never do again. At least I drove it in a two-seater sports car (anybody remember the silver Datsun 280z?).

If it wasn't for convoys of semis and their ubiquitous appreciation for attractive blondes, I never would have made the travel time that I did. Good luck with your move and I wish you and your husband safe driving.

How about finding that two-headed cow, Scarlett? I think it is in Missouri, although it might be in Kansas. My son saw miles and miles of advertisements for it as he traveled cross country on tour a few years ago. So, when he came to the place they all went to see it. I guess there were other strangely interesting things at the same place, but he said the cow was the weirdest.

Have a good safe trip. Maybe I'll see you while we're acting like tourists around Montana, wyoming, and Utah.

Good luck sweetie! A can't miss in Minden, NE is The Sod House -- at least that's what I remember from a late 50s childhood trip to visit my Grandpa and Grandma's farm.

Scarlett, have a fantastic trip. We are facing much the same sort of voyage in about 6 weeks - driving from Toronto to Victoria, with 2 cats. No idea how the cats will tolerate the trip, but they will doubtless be posting a trip report from time to time; I believe they are bringing their laptop.
Once you get settled, do consider a jaunt northwards to visit us in Victoria!
