Scarlett Takes a Big Trip
This is just to say goodbye. We (Pup and the Yankee and I) leave tomorrow morning for Portland Oregon...by car...will we arrive sane? will we arrive in the same car? These questions and more will be answered in a month or two :)
I want to thank everyone for the advice and good wishes. Pup thanks you too. Take care, and be on the lookout for a small black car with two wild eyed humans and a grinning brown pup in the back..coming to a highway near you! Look out Ga, Tn, Mo, Ut, Ne, Id and wherever else we manage to find ourselves ~ Oh and where is that Big Ball of String? Muchas hugs to all my FodorFriends! ((L))Scarlett |
If by chance you're delirious and passing through Atlanta, let me know. I'll try to make the stop more interesting...or more boring, depending on your perspective ;)
We'll miss you but can't wait to hear about the further adventures of Scarlett O'regon, Yankee and Pup. |
Buon viaggio, Scarlett! If you check your email you'll find one from me.
|
A safe and happy journey dear Scarlett to all three of you!!! And welcome to the west coast ((f))
|
Have a safe move and enjoy your trip!
|
Have a nice trip -- make sure you have A/C. ((b))
|
Scarlett, Yankee and Pup, best wishes to you as you all start your journey west to your new home. I'm sure you will have some amusing and interesting experiences to share with us as soon as you are settled in. We will all be looking forward to hearing from you in a while.
Have a safe and pleasant trip! |
Scarlett, Yankee, and Pup:
Safe travels, easy riding, nice hotels, and easy moving into the new place in Portland. Jacksonville's loss is Portland's gain. |
Have a safe journey and may your furniture not be too far behind you..or is it ahead of you? Let us know when you "land".
|
Have a safe trip! How about the biggest basket building? Or the big steel cow? Such great sights to see, lol!
|
Wow!! What an adventure!! I would never have what it takes...would have shipped the car and flown, but think of all that I would have missed. :)
|
Have a great trip! Give our regards to Portland...we will return there someday. And after you settle in, if you go down to McMinnville and see a retired couple out with an insane Moluccan cockatoo, say hello to my husband's parents...
|
How about finding that two-headed cow, Scarlett? I think it is in Missouri, although it might be in Kansas. My son saw miles and miles of advertisements for it as he traveled cross country on tour a few years ago. So, when he came to the place they all went to see it. I guess there were other strangely interesting things at the same place, but he said the cow was the weirdest.
|
I did the cross-country move once, from Bev Hills to NYC, and I did it alone. Apart from the breathtaking views through and around the Grand Canyon and the fabulous cowboy boots and hat I purchased in Cheyenne, Wyoming, I remember the trip being one I'd rather forget and never do again. At least I drove it in a two-seater sports car (anybody remember the silver Datsun 280z?).
If it wasn't for convoys of semis and their ubiquitous appreciation for attractive blondes, I never would have made the travel time that I did. Good luck with your move and I wish you and your husband safe driving. |
Bon voyage, Scarlett. "Travels with Pup" coming up? Stay safe and healthy.
|
Happy trails to you...until..we meet..again!! ((8)) :-" <):) We'll miss you chica! Safe travels.
|
Have a good safe trip. Maybe I'll see you while we're acting like tourists around Montana, wyoming, and Utah.
|
Have a wonderful trip and we'll look forward to seeing you back in Fodorville, real soon.
|
Good luck sweetie! A can't miss in Minden, NE is The Sod House -- at least that's what I remember from a late 50s childhood trip to visit my Grandpa and Grandma's farm.
|
Scarlett, have a fantastic trip. We are facing much the same sort of voyage in about 6 weeks - driving from Toronto to Victoria, with 2 cats. No idea how the cats will tolerate the trip, but they will doubtless be posting a trip report from time to time; I believe they are bringing their laptop.
Once you get settled, do consider a jaunt northwards to visit us in Victoria! |
Hi Scarlett,
Glad to hear you're headed to Portland. It's the best place in the country to live. I know from your postings last year that you've scoped it all out in advance, but let me know if you need help getting acquainted with our -- and now your -- wonderful town! Carmen |
Happy and safe travels, Scarlett. I'll toast to your sanity this coming weekend. ;)
|
Ciao bella!!!
|
So tomorrow is not "another day," Miss Scarlett!!! ;-)
Bon voyage, and I hope any travel adventures will be fun and not harrowing. Please check in when the dust settles and tell us all about it. |
Happy journey, Scarlett!
(Sophie said to tell Pup, "Woof and to nap alot as to not make his parents crazy.") Safe, pleasant wishes are all coming our way. Take care! ((L)) Tiff |
Here's wishing Scarlett, the Yankee and Pup a safe trip!
|
Congrats, Scarlett.
I've left the safe environment of Europe to wish you well here. Do you know Mary Black's "Big Trip to Portland" or is the title of your thread a coincidence? |
Scarlett - DO A BLOG!!!
We did one about five years ago (pre-blog)... all day long, we made notes of funny things, place names, etc. At night, one of us wrote the daily letter, and the other wrote the parenthetical comments. The next day we switched roles. When I got home (I was accompanying a pal to her new job at Glen Canyon, from Fort McHenry in Baltimore), I pulled all of our e-mails together, with the corresponding replies from friends, and published a small book for us and our pals. It was called "Careening Across the Country - Denigrating the Locals!" Have a safe journey, and I hope all goes well! |
Ohhhhh, did you remember to bring
an extra bottle of Tequila for mms ? Welcome to the Left Coast ! Safe journey, my dears. R5 |

Have a wonderfully safe trip and remember to take time to stop and smell the flowers on the way to Portland! |
Have a great and safe trip. I hope Pup is a good traveller!
|
Safe trip Scarlett. Hard to believe you sold the house, closed, packed etc. Seems like just yesterday you started talking about this. Hope all goes well. Happy trails to you, ((8)) ((8)) ((8))

Bon voyage and safe trip, Scarlett. Maybe in about 6 more years we'll be back there too!
|
"Fear and Loathing in Ga, Tn, Mo, Ut, Ne, Id and wherever else..."? Looking forward to your upcoming dissection of the wonders of Portland, Scarlett.
|
Scarlett, if your traveling companions become troublesome, always remember: as long as you've got a credit card and there's an airport around, just bail out, designer purse in hand, at the nearest taxi stand!
Seriously, I do wish you, H. and Pup the safest of journeys and lots of sights to entertain you. There's some funny stuff out there, take notes for us. Portland is gonna welcome you with open arms when you arrive, at last, at "home". Hugs, kiddo! |
((8)) ((8)) ((8)) Happy Trails to you ((8)) ((8)) ((8)).... Scarlett, Pup and the Yank .... Wonderful, good luck to you in your new home! %%-

Safe travels, Scarlett!
Wishing you the best in your new (cooler) home! |
Happy Trails to You.... Be safe!!!
|
All the best Scarlett!
Looking forward to hearing from you soon - don't forget to let your friends on the Europe board know when you have settled in. Jim |
I've never gone that way. I usually hug I-10. Have a great trip. I'll be thinking of you when the next big one blows through -- it is a bit much to ask of humans, isn't it? I think you and Portland will be a good fit from what I've heard of Portland. Au dieu, be safe.
