So good to see you posting on Fodors again, la belle dame avec le chien magnifique!
Don't even tell me about the chilly nights you're enjoying in Portland! Have mercy on those left behind. You're where you should have been, all along, in a place where you can wake up every morning zinging with anticipation. And, Scarlett, if anyone knows how to zing, it's you! |
So glad to see you made it safe and sound Scarlett. It's great to see you back...I envy you for being able to take a cross country road trip. Some day I will...Enjoy your new home!!

Scarlett, no wonder Pup can yodel--he is a German water spaniel, after all--he must have Swiss or Bavarian ancestors.
I can remember when French Quarter first opened--glad they are doing well. FWIW, if you ever do a day trip to Eugene, Pup will be welcome at the outdoor tables at Zenon Cafe (8th and Pearl) |
Good cigar - Paul Guerians in the smaller ring size. Hard to find here on the east coast.
|
Marilyn--DH tells me that tequila is not my friend either, lol! I don't listen to him:D

Scarlett - isn't Oregon beautiful? I wouldn't mind living there except they don't like Californians. I'm so glad your trek across the country was pleasant (specifically no car trouble) and that your're enjoying your new surroundings. Best to you and yours.

Welcome back, Scarlett!
From the beach near our new house in Victoria, we can look across the Strait of Juan de Fuca into Washington State. We'll send happy thoughts across the border - I think those are allowed without a permit. Our cats were very interested in Pup's camel. They're hoping they will get to see something similar as we travel across the country in a few weeks. ((@)) ((@)) -:? |
Just spent a month in Portland for work and thought the area was absolutely awsome. People were friendly, air was clean and no humidity! I was lucky enough to go to the taste of Oregon which was right next to my hotel and got to see one of my favorite bands, the Decemberists. I hope you got a chance to go to the many lakes in the area which are surronded by mountains and created by the dams. The scenery was great. Glad you had a good time.

Hey, Scarlett, hope you're enjoying Portland. I've sent you a couple emails but they came back. Duh! Guess you're not comcast any more. Care to send me an email?
By the way, I hope you're near PhoVan in the Pearl. We had an amazing lunch there of a special soup bowl with grilled salmon on top. And friend Susan said she got the BEST pedicure and manicure at a Vietnamese place near by where the owner of PhoVan sent her, at half the price she's used to in Naples. |
Glad you are getting settled in your new place and town, that that you are back online, Scarlett. Congrats! :)
Sounds like you had a great cross-country trip. Yes, it is something that we all should do at one point in time. |
Hi there and thank you all again!
I felt those good wishes floating over from BC :D Patrick, your email is on the way~ I didn't realize when we changed to this comcast here in Or, that it would not be my same old addy..duh. Faina, that might just be it..he does yodel well ( and loudly) JJason, we are going to be enjoying a huge music festival here soon, hundreds of bands at hundreds of venues..you should come back ! Today was shopping and lunching on NW 23rd Ave..why am I reminded of Haight Ashbury? bighugs! |
Scarlett, I'm so glad you arrived safe and sound!
Summer will end here soon, and I will be longing for the state you just left! :-) BuffaloGirl |
Scarlett, congratulations on your move to Portland. We lived there for three years about twenty years ago, and just loved it there. I hope you've discovered the Saturday Market - wonderful crafts, music, and food every weekend from early March until Christmas (Sundays, too). See www.saturdaymarket.org for more info. It's a great place to find unusual things for your new place - we still have some nice things we enjoy that we bought there many years ago.
The rain in the winter months can get very wearing, but I never saw so many rainbows in my life as when we lived there. I remember being in a parking lot shortly after we moved there, amazed at a vivid double rainbow in the sky, but even more astonished at all the people walking by completely ingnoring that beautiful rainbow. They were all so used to them they didn't even notice it! I vowed then that I wouldn't become so jaded as to not pay attention to rainbows - I hope you enjoy many rainbows, and never stop being awed by them. |
Thanks Sara!
We have been to a couple of the Sat Markets already, as we have been here for visits and made a point of going to all the markets that we could..they are fun. I am looking forward to this weeks market near the Art Museum, I want fresh flowers from the farm. You mention rainbows..we saw the most incredible rainbow on the drive here, I believe it was in Montana..huge and right over us and looked so close! I will be on the lookout for them here, as soon as it rains :) |
