Savannah dining

Hello, I will be in Savannah the first part of Feb. I need some good places to dine. We arrive early afternoon and would like an Upscale tavern? for late lunch. What are the "must do" places for fine dining?
Thank you, Kris

One of the very best is Elizabeth on 37 (I hope I have the number right). Trendy and upscale but not elegant is Savannah Bistro in the market district. Excellent place.

For lunch, don't miss Wilkes' Boarding House for true old-fashioned join-others-at-the-table southern cooking. Lady and Sons is good too, but Wilke's is the real thing.

Thank you Patrick! A few years back I went to 45 south. We were only in town one night. Is that still worth going to on a 3 night stay? We will be staying at the Ballastone Inn. You seem to be an expert on my favorite places. I LOVE Naples. Thanks again

Kris, we haven't eaten at 45 South in 6 years, but it truly was one of Savannah's best, and far less well known than the big names...Elizabeth's on 37th, Pink House, Sapphire Grill, etc. Last I knew they were still in operation. As long as you've already eaten there though, in your shoes I'd give Pink House a try. The food there is excellent as well, but the restaurant is much prettier than 45 South, IMHO. Like Elizabeths', it's in an old mansion, and the various rooms were converted to separate dining rooms. It has a nice intimate feel, whereas 45 South is quite open--different ambience altogether.

A second vote for Savannah Bistro if you have time. We went there on a slow evening and had a blast. The waiter dished up local gossip with the (very good) food. Some of the gossip sounded far fetched, but with Savannah, who knows? Even if he was just pulling our leg, it was entertaining and memorable in a fun way.
