Sausalito or Tiburon? Help!

My husband and I will be staying in the SF area for four nights in June, but we would prefer not to stay in SF. We thought that Sausalito, or Tiburon, would be a good choice...easy access to SF and wine country. Which of these is less touristy, more casual, and more scenic? FYI...our choice of lodging is The Inn Above Tide in Sausalito; Waters Edge Hotel in Tiburon. Any comments on our lodging choices would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Both scenic. Don't know your specific hotels. Tiburon definitely less touristy.

Agree Tiburon would be more laid-back. Sausalito has a busy downtown. Sorry - don't know the hotels either.

If you stay in Tiburon, Guaymas is an excellent restaurant.

Tiburon is definitely less touristy. We've stayed at Inn Above Tide many times...can you tell we love it? It's beautiful, romantic and has a fantastic view of the SF skyline.

Ditto Tiburon. I always enjoy hanging out there a little when I do the Angel Island ferry trip every few years.

I don't known if you'll be driving and want to see San Francisco, but in case you do, Sausalito is closer (by car) to the city. Both are within striking distance, so you'd be fine driving from either to the city for dinner, etc. Tiburon really is quieter and less touristy.

We stayed at the Inn Above the Tide last summer and although our room was small it was quite nice with lots of amenities. The best part was the spectacular view of SF from the deck. The hotel is right next door to the ferry dock. We took the ferry across and had lunch at the Slanted Door in the Ferry Building. The other days we did the wine country, etc. I'm not familiar with the other hotel.

I'd vote for Tiburon too. You can take a ferry from either town to SF and not have to deal w/ the car in the city. Be sure to take the boat over to Angel Island one day.

Thanks, everyone, for your help
We've decided to stay in Tiburon at the Waters Edge Hotel. We plan to take the ferry to SF and Angel Island, and spend a day in wine country. Tiburon sounds perfect!

"Caprice" restaurant in Tiburon is on the water and was excellent the last time I was there, but that was nearly 7 years ago.

Sam's Anchor Cafe in Tiburon, on a warm day, one of my favorite places in the world.
