I want to thank everyone for all their great suggestions. As Dovima said, Albuquerque is NOT the seafood capital of the US so Bar Crudo might be a good choice. I tried checking on reservations through Open Table and SAB was right, most of the restaurants mentioned have reservations no earlier then 8:00 PM. Myth looked real good, but they're completely booked. We ate at the Slanted Door our first time in San Francisco and really enjoyed it.Besides Bar Crudo, Town Hall, Coi and Plouf are in the mix. Again, thanks everyone!! If there are any other suggestions, it's never to late. Foodster.

If you can't book the table via Opentable, call them directly - it's worked many times for us.
By the way, you're not shooting an arrow and seeing where it lands - your questions were very good. Make sure you also review the top 100 restaurants recently listed in the SF Chron.

Hi Foodster, in the never too late category - and the "you may get a reservation on Saturday because it fell off the Chron Top 100 for 2007," we tried Bacar in Soma and it was quite pleasant. The wine by the glass selection is great and by the bottle even better and the food compliments the wine.

Foodster,
This may be too late if you've already left for the trip. But I have a few great local places I'd like to suggest.
Pesce has wonderful seafood and small plate dishes. Almost toatally a locals only place.
A16 makes their own salumi (salami) that is available only at the restaurant, they don't even sell it to the locals for takeout. It is extraordinary and worth trying.
Chez Spencer is in a back street location (take a taxi and have the address because they've probably never heard of it). The interior ambience is romantic and real quiet. Every time I go I can't pass up the Lyonnaise salad and/or the venison entree.
As for new places, I have had drinks at Myth (never dinner), it is on my short list for must-do places.
I disagree completely that Plouf or Foreign Cinema are good choices; the food at both places is just average. Also, Town Hall is a better lunch than dinner, IMO.

I am Vietnamese and I have to say that I think Slanted Door is some of the worst wanna-be Vietnamese food I have ever tasted. It is soooo over-rated. You are definitely not going to miss out on anything by not eating there.
One of my old time favorites is Boulevard. Still popular after all these years.
