Saratoga -- race tickets question

We plan to be in Saratoga in mid-August (not Travers Stakes day). I see that the due date for applications for reserved seats is long gone.

Are reserved seats worth the effort? We will have two young kids, will it be better not to be jostled? Is there some way to get reserved seats now?

when we go, we just bring a picnic and sit in the back - there is also a section to the left of the bleachers with picnic tables which is right on the track. You can go up to the track for the races and then go back to the area you staked out. we love it.

Usually reserved seats are sold out long in advance - like in January. I'm really surprised they have any left. If you can get them they are absolutely worth it - there's a lot of walking and it's a long day for kids when you have to search forever to find a place to sit.

If you can;t get seats through the track try e-bay or check some of the on-line scalpers (stubhub.com etc).

Not only tickets - but hotels too. Do you have rooms yet?

A lot of people end up staying in Lake George.

We have a condo for the week in Lake George and would like to spend a day at the races.

I can't help with the ticket info, but we used to live in the area and went to the track with our small children. We did like radiofanatic and took a picnic many times. I am not sure if this place is still there, so maybe radiofanatic or another person can be sure, but at any rate, right across the street from the track was a great little pizza place called Bruno's that is very family friendly and was good.

From the NYRA website:

Unsold seat tickets and "Sun Seat" tickets for the current day go on sale each raceday at 8 a.m. at the Reserved Seat Booth located at Gate A (Union Avenue) and are available the night before from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs. (Tickets are available at 7 a.m. on Travers Day, Saturday, Aug. 26.) Limit four per person. Cash only. Ticket price does not include admission.
