Santorini, second or third week of June?

Hi everyone,

I am planning a trip to Santorini and Mykonos in June (2011). I hate the heat and cannot possibly enjoy myself when the weather's too hot (I'm very particular about this). At the same time, I want it to be hot enought to be able to enjoy swimming. So, which is better, second or third week of June for travelling to the Greek islands? Is the second week warm enough to enjoy water activities while being pleasant? For me, the ideal temperature is 73-76, but I realize that's not hot enough for swimming; so I'm willing to be a little uncomfortable outside of water for the sake of being able to get in the water.

Please let me know which week would work better for me. Plus, is the water going to be cold any way regardless of which week I choose, or is it gonna be swimmable?

First off, Santorini amd Mykonos are in Greece and not related to California in any way.; You might consider posting this question under Europe and tagging it for Greece.

Second, this seems like a crazy question. There will be little water temperature difference between the second or third week of June. It will still be on the cool side. Actually June temperature is impossible to predict. It could be very hot or very cool depending on weather patterns. I plan for hot.

Sorry fmpden! Of course I know Santorini and Mykonos are in Greece! I'm a newcomer and I thought I was supposed to pick the country and state of my residence...oops!

Second, why is this a crazy question! I'm trying to pick between the two weeks, and if there is little difference between temperatures, then that's my answer!

It is crazy because there is really no answer to the question. The difference between the second and third week of June would be very small and extremely hard to predict. If you were asking about the second week of June or third week of August there would be some substantial differences. Europe is having a pretty hard winter with some below average temps so I would guess that the Aegean might be a little cooler this year and if the cool weather pattern continues into the Spring, slower warming up. It makes as much sense to flip a coin for you choice as it does try to determine which seven days will be hotter.

I wouldn't ask between the second week of June vs third week of August; it would be like comparing apples and oranges!!! Just because you can't answer, it doesn't make it a crazy question! And again, if the answer is there is no difference, then that's a legitimate answer to a legitimate question!

Honestly, Sepi, asking for a comparison of the weather between the second week of June and the third week of August would make a lot MORE sense, since there will be a difference. Where in the world, though, can anyone predict a specific difference historically speaking between two adjacent WEEKS?

Definitely repost in the Europe forum, but I'd also look at late May as well. The islands can be quite hot by June.
