Santa Fe: La Choza closed on Sunday - where to eat?

Driving from ABQ to Red River, we love to eat lunch at La Choza in Santa Fe. Alas, they are closed on Sunday, which is when we're driving through on this trip. What would be a good alternative for the same type of New Mexican food as La Choza, close to the road from ABQ to Taos? Any suggestions?

I'll help top, since Santa Fe is my favorite place to eat in the US.
Sundays are a tad tricky. The Bumble Bee near deVargas Mall is open, though not New Mexican classic. There's a place near the turnoff to Bandolier, west of the highway, that's recommended.

When we were there on a Sunday this fall, we ended up eating at the Plaza Cafe and had some fine NM food along with a window seat on all the Plaza action.

This is useless info for you, of course, since a jaunt into the Plaza is a time investment, but maybe we could get a local to notice this and respond. I'd like a fund of Sunday lunch places, too. Our hostess was only able to come up with a handful.

Thanks, stokebailey, for suggestions for future trips - I'll make note. Thanks for topping, too!

Eating out in Santa Fe, ABQ and Taos on Sunday can be a challenge. Many places are simply not open.

This is out of town a bit, but has great food in a simple setting:

Tesuque Village Market
Family Dining

5 miles North of Santa Fe
Tesuque

Hours: OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner: 7am-9pm (open 'til 10pm in the summer)
(505) 988-8848

NORTHERN NEW MEXICAN CUISINE.
NO RESERVATIONS (except for very large parties)
CREDIT CARDS: MC/VISA NO AE
SMOKING SECTION AVAILABLE
OUTDOOR DINING

VILLAGE MARKET IS ALSO A GROCERY STORE/ DELI/ LIQUOR STORE

There are some places in Bernalillo [just north of ABQ] that should be open on Sunday:
Range Cafe, Abuelita's [may not be open on Sunday}, Flying star and they are all 5 minutes from I25.

Deb,
Would you recommend Range Cafe, & Abuelita's over restaurants in ABQ proper? We are currently staying at Hyatt Tamaya for a few days.

That was it, Tesuque. Also mentioned by my oldtimer Santa Fe hostess.

We love Abuelita's for their authentic northern new mexico food. The Range has good food, ecletic mix.

For food in ABQ - what cuisine and price range?

Have a look at this thread I did a while back:

If you want some GREAT barbeque, head down SR 528 into Rio Rancho and eat at Mad Max's BBQ on Sara Road. Its just past Intel; make a right at the Chevron Station}

Also, Banana Leaf on SR 528 near Target shopping center, has some of the best asian food around. Try their duck special [which they have all the time -ha!- ] It is simply prepared but delicious.

Thanks, Deb - Tesuque looks like it would fit the bill. In looking at Mapquest, it appears to be on a side road east of 84 but wouldn't be much of a detour.

Tesque village has it's own exit off 84 - easy access off and back on going either direction. #168.

Banana Leaf is great; probably one of the best Asian restaurants in the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area.

Deb, thanks for recommending Mad Max's. We'll check it out the next time we're in Rio Rancho.
