Julia; This will sound fresh but the truth is if you want great authentic Mexican food the best place for that is Mexico. I'm sorry but it's true. That said, while in Santa Fe try: Mariscos la Playa on Cordova Road near St. Francis Drive. People seems to like it very much. I find it pretty good but not great. Gabriels's out on the highway towards Espanola is better. A pretty drive around sunset time. They will make you the guacamole at the table. Nice but not great, IMHO. If I were you I would go for NEW MEXICAN food instead. There are an infinite number of great NM restaurants. For instance: Tomasita's, El Paragua in Espanola(great and fabulous), Tecolote, Tia Sophia's, La Posas, Bert's Taqueria, Dave's Not Here, Plaza Cafe, La Plazeula at La Fonda (very good), etc, etc, etc, etc......

I'm sure there will be more suggestions from others.

Just got back from our trip to Santa Fe. While both are probably considered new mexican restaurants, we really enjoyed "Maria's," "The Shed" and "Guadalupe Cafe" the most.

My first choice would be The Old Mexico Grill -- or Maria's or The Shed.

Sean,

Please forgive me, but, huh? If English is your second language you're forgiven. If it is not, then what the hell are you trying to say and spell?

Couldn't help but notice that your e-mail address is that of a university or something. Hope you're not an instructor there.
