Santa Fe and July 4th
What kind of celebration activities are there on July 4th in Santa Fe? Are there fireworks around the city? Is it a good day to stay out of the plaza area? We are planning on hiking Kasha-Katuwe tent rocks on the 4th and maybe coming back to town later on. How about the next day? We are planning on touring the plaza area on the 5th. Will things be back in order?

gwburk, fireworks will depend of the fire danger in Santa Fe. Its a high desert area and fires are a real problem at that time of year as everything is very dry and brittle.
As far as things being back in order, since the 5th is a Thur everything should be open unless they decide to take off more days for the national holiday. It will be crowded, per se, but fun. They will have pancakes on The Plaza starting at 7am which is fun.
Here is info from the santafe.org calendar:

Its hot but lots of fun!

We wre there last year for the 4th of July. There is a lot going on in the plaza area. There is an outdoor craft fair (in addition to the usual vendor by the museum), tha pancake breakfast which is free for all and somehting to see, and there's bands playing all day into the evening. I don't recall any fireworks but loved the spirit around the plaza.

Pancakes on the Plaza is a lot of fun. Two years ago there were bands and dancing in the plaza, plus craft and food booths and an antique car show. There were fireworks that night, but they were done in a different part of town. When you get to Santa Fe, Pick up the free publication, Santa Fe Reporter, for specifics.
