Sanibel accomodations

Has anyone stayed in a particulary nice condo or inn in Sanibel?

I haven't been down there in a long time, but as I recall, West Side Dr was the nicer area - correct? Prefer a small development, don't need amenities besides beachfront. I didn't like the part of Sanibel that had all those canals and boat docks.

When they specify gulf front I presume that is the Gulf of Mexico, not the Sound?

Thanks!

I have always enjoyed the Sundial resort. It is right on the gulf. Each unit is individually owned but rented through the resort. Had many a great rooms there.

Hi Cindy,
Sundial is a large resort. We used to rent through Pricilla Murphy Agency, www.pmrealty.com and rented a condo unit in a small complex. One had only 9 units.Depends what you like. You can specify the type and level of luxury etc. Other websites are www.vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner). The Chamber of Commerce has lots of info, click on accommodations : www.sanibel-captiva.org
Gulf front means Gulf of Mexico. Most condos are along Gulf and.We prefer the West Gulf Dr. No matter where you stay, go to Bowman Beach ,road turns off San-Captiva Rd. before Captiva. It's the best beach .
Also - Chamber of Comm. is on R side as you cross over the caseway to Sanibel. They have island maps, info on beaches, restaurants etc.Worth to stop by.
Have fun ! We love Sanibel !

I made a mistake in previous message. The website should be www.pmrrealty.com or www.resortquest.com/sanibelisland
You can get their toll-free nr. on website and call . We liked Atrium, Sayana but there are so many lovely units.Of course, you can get a better rate renting from owners direct, but an agency can present more choices according to your wishes.
