I was one of the regulars - even have a T-shirt that says "rain or shine, there is always a line". I remember when Franco was behind the stove on Columbus. However, when I re-visited it in the 90s after an absence of 10 years or so, either better places opened up in the City, or my tastes got more refined. It was OK, but not on a par with many other Italian places in The City. Their hamburgers were legendary in the 70s - probably still are, but I'm not a big hamburger fan anymore.

Mustard Festival Photo Finish Event might be a fun option... I think it is $90 each for appetizers, dessert and wine - music and dancing and Wine Country schmoozing. But you might also check the calendars for the Lincoln Theater in Yountville or Copia in Napa or the Napa Valley Opera House. There are fantastic performances, and for the same money you could have an incredible Napa Valley restaurant dinner and a great show. It depends what appeals to you.

Stu, I wasn't suggesting the Little Joe's should be on the list...I was just trying to explain why it might be on the list. At the Columbus location, if you sat at the counter, those waiting for a table would be on you like a backpack. I once got a parking place right in front of the Columbus location...on Columbus Day.

Razzledazzle - must've had an extra large bowl of Wheaties. Even though Dr. Tess is a genius, even he can't keep up with my smart-a** mouth sometimes. Can't imagine this itinerary, though. It was like looking at a map that somebody threw darts at and the others agreed it was a good plan. Complete with additional comments just to make it even ***sillier*** .

Tampatiger - glad you asked for some help. By the way, don't stay at Fisherman's Wharf. Stay at the St. Francis. You mentioned "and/or" Le Meridien in SF. Two hotels in tiny SF? Do you enjoy packing, unpacking and dealing with the front desk? Just pick one and stay - you're exhausting me, already.

We stayed at the St. Francis on Union Square this past July and really enjoyed our time there. However, do ask some questions when booking your room...we stayed in the old part of the hotel and the first room we were given was quite different than the one we actually stayed in. (Upon arrival we noticed there were no drawers and only a teeny closet. As we were going to be there for almost ten days, we prefered a place for out stuff. In addition, they were doing work on the outside of the building on that side and suggested we keep our curtains closed at all times because of workmen...as you can imagine, the work was also quite loud.)

Anyhow, the room we stayed in was delightful - chandelier, small living area, HUGE closet, and a great bathroom. The concierge was extremely helpful as was the front desk. However, I was not impressed with the room service staff or the parking attendants.

Enjoy your time in San Francisco...we were there for our honeymoon and look forward to spending an anniversary there as well!
