San Francisco in early March
What kind of weather -e.g. average temp during the day & evening? Precipitation? Is it foggy this time of year & if so, what time of day does it roll in? What weight jacket would you recommend?

The heavy fog is usually a summer thing. In march the weather will probably be a mix of sun, clouds, and a little rain - temperatures in the low 50s to high 60s would be my guess. It could be a little cooler though.
As for jacket - bring a light jacket that will keep out the wind and the rain.

Hmmm...March is still well within the rainy season. If we get a good storm, it can be chilly. I would say a good raincoat or rain jacket with a hood, and if it's lightweight or unlined, bring a sweater (cashmere is warm and lightweight) in case it gets below 50.
OTOH, it could be in the 70's and glorious. Difficult time of year! (We do have stores here...)

March is going towards the latter part of the rainy season - we can get some good drenching storms, but not as cold as the ones around the holidays. No matter whether it's raining or sunny, though, it will feel like spring here because the hills will be really green and the blossoms will be out on plum and cherry trees. I concur with the raincoat and a cardigan - layering is the first fashion lesson of the S.F. female (or male) because one does it all year round here!
