In the Tenderloin area they may rent by the hour. Also some massage parlors.

Well to seriously answer your question prowl, you could just rent a decent hotel room for "one night". But you might run into a problem with a room being available early morning. How early will you be? I recently stayed at the Kimpton Villa Florence Hotel (right at Union Sq) a few weeks ago and good friends did also. Both rooms were available by 9:00am as we had requested, but there was no guarantee of course. They do try to accomodate guest when possible. They will of course hold your luggage if the room is not ready. They will also hold your luggage (and often will allow a bit of a late checkout) but certainly not until say 10:00pm. Meaning they will hold your luggage but not allow checkout that late. I personally do not know of any hotel that you would want to stay at that offers "day use". Have you checked with your cruise line to see if they have any suggestions? Best wishes.

I would check some of the airport hotels. Checking in for day use between flights surely would not be a new thing for them, and they would have shuttles to the airport proper.

Do you need a room for a nap and shower, or to store luggage and explore the city? If the latter, check out car rental prices with the airport drop-off.
