San Francisco Carnival-Any Tips From Locals?
Hello. Two 40 somethings planning a trip, no children along. Noticed that the day we planned to visit the Mission district will be Carnival (May 30-Sunday). Would love a local's advice on a good spot for brief parade viewing and best route to take via public transportation from the Union Square area to avoid delays. Plan to eat at a taqueria on Harrison and just walk around and enjoy the neighborhood. Will this area be so chaotic that we will regret chosing this day? We could switch and go Monday (Memorial Day). Have looked at the offical website and 1 other and have a good idea of the area involved in the festival and schedule of events. Will try to arrive about 1 hour before parade begins. Thanks for any inside advice.

I've been a couple times, gotten there after the parade though. We took BART and walked over from the 16th st station. There was lots of food, people in costumes, music, and so on. We went on Sunday both times and it was pretty chaotic - I don't know if you will regret choosing that day - we had a blast. I don't know how monday would be.

You should go to the parade. it's really fun. I would recommend taking BART to the 24th street station and walking down 24th towards to around Folsom for the best viewing. The website for the parade is:
