San Francisco area itinerary-HELP!
We will be traveling to San Francisco for a wedding in mid-August, and would like to spend an extra week in the area. We plan to rent a car and would like to get some recommendations i.e. lodgings in Carmel, etc.
What suggestions do you have for interesting destinations, sightseeing, restaurants, etc.
We have not traveled in this area for about 16 years.

Hi, HAR!
These questions come up almost daily here on this forum. You'll find a ton of information by typing your area of interest in the Search box above, e.g., "Carmel hotels", "Napa Wine Tours", etc.
It will also help if you could give us some indication as to # of people, any kids, the range of your budget, what your interests are: eating, hiking, eating and hiking at the same time, museums, nightclubs...???
Fodorites are incredibly helpful, but it's hard to answer a general question. Even when you ask for specifics, such as, "best Italian restaurant in San Francisco", we can but give you our personal favorites.
So, help us to help you!

What do you mean by an extra week? What will be your total time here and is the wedding in SF or outside SF?
If you will be here 8 days or so & the wedding is in SF, then the "Standard Package" is 2 nights in the Carmel area, 2 nights in the wine country, and 4 nights in SF.
Click on my name & look at all the US posts & you will get lots of good info from me and the numerous other Bay Area experts.

Dear easytraveler and Stu: Thanks for the input--we are a couple in our very early seventies, young at heart, good health. (Remember, 70 is the new 50)The wedding is in San Francisco, we will have an additional seven days after that to travel around, and will fly home from SF. Re: our interests--eating, hiking, (either together or separately!), museums, perhaps a show--not interested in nightclubs.

E-mail me at [email protected] & I'll send you copies of much of the stuff I've already posted about SF.
Take a free SF City Guides walking tour. They offer over 30 a month. My wife is one of the volunteer guides on the Victorian San Francisco, and the Landmark Victorians of Alamo Square walks. There are others in Haight Ashbury, Palace hotel, North Beach, Chinatown, GG Bridge, Bawdy & Naughty (that you shake you up a little), City Scapes & Public Places, Chinatown, and about 25 others. Their full schedule can be found at:
www.sfcityguides.org
They are sponsored by the SF public Library.
For a show, I would strongly recommend Teatro Zinzani. It's a combination of slapstick, circus acts, song, and you even get dinner - hopefull prepared by "Cookie". Others like Beach Blanket Babylon, which is quite good, but I think Zinzani is a little more creative & perhaps more "adult" (can't think of a better word).
