San Francisco
Hello,
We are headed to San Francisco for the weekend. First timers!! I think we'll go to Chinatown, Fishermans Wharf and Alcatraz. Any other places to visit? What is the name of the curvy street we always see on commericals? Any restaurant recommendations? Any good bars?
We were hoping for something trendy maybe a popular celebrity hot spot.
Thanks!!!

I don't know from trendy, but I can recommend a fantastic restaurant in the Richmond District, which our trendy SF-resident son turned us onto:
Burma Superstar.
Reservations not accepted; at least a half-hour wait (you can hang out at the bar across the street, which is also cool), and worth every minute.

Robin Williams lives nearby in Seacliff, though I can't promise you'll see him or any other "celebrities." Gavin Newsom used to be visible at a lot of trendy bars, but he's in rehab now!
Curvy street=Lombard Street
From Fisherman's Wharf, walk to Ghirardelli Square
Don't miss North Beach, to which you can walk from Chinatown. Have a cappuccino at Caffe Roma & sit for a while.

The "curvy street" is Lombard, between Hyde and Leavenworth. Definitely visit North Beach while you're in the area. It's between Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf. In North Beach, you may get lucky and see Sean Penn hanging out in the Tosca bar. There are lots of good bars in the area - Specs 12 Adler being one of my favorite "dive" bars.
Another trendy location right now is the area around 16th and Valenica in the Mission. Valencia Street between 16th and 24th has tons of excellent restaurants, bars, nightclubs, coffee houses and stores. It also has 826 Valencia (http://www.826valencia.org/store/), a writer's workshop and the largest independent pirate supply store in the Western USA.
