We are arriving at Oakland Airport next Friday and staying at the Kensington Hotel near Union Square. How easy/difficult will it be to get into the city on BART with our luggage? Does anyone have suggestions for the best way into the city? Is a taxi feasible economically?

Hi Kaster, if you want to you can take the shuttle bus from the Oakland Airport to the BART station (it is about 3 miles to BART). Then take BART into SF. If you are staying near Union Square you will want to get off at the Powell St. BART station.

When you get off of BART walk to the front of the station..go through the ticket gate (you buy your ticket at BART to begin your trip and put your ticket in the turnstile when you leave BART). Go up the elavator. You will be at the corner of Market and Powell. Turn left and walk up Powell to Post. That is about 4 blocks. Now, I am not sure if your hotel is left or right on Post but believe you turn left on Post to get to your hotel. Your hotel can tell you. Welcome to San Francisco and have a beautiful time! Oh, btw, lots of people use BART from the airport. You will be fine with your luggage. In fact I had friends from Italy do this same trip for the first time and they were amazed how easy it was. I've done this a couple of times, and it is quite easy (as long as you don't have more luggage than you can easily roll and/or carry by yourself). When you return to the airport, make sure you get on a train going to either Fremont or Dublin/Pleasonton - the ones going to Richmond or Pittsburg/Bay Point do not go to the stop for the Oakland AIrport.

Thanks for the Help! We are just bringing one rolling carry-on each so this should be manageable. Can't wait to get to San Fran! Hope the weather is sunny!

Hi kaster, the weather will be beautiful but do know as the sun goes down it can be a bit chilly so do bring a jacket or something!n And Sara added on info that I should have!

You should definitely take a left onto Post from Powell. The hotel will be on the same side of Powell as the Disney store, a few doors down. Fortunately, the walk is as minimally hilly as one can expect in SF! Have fun!
