mikemo, we're talking about a border town, which as you very well know bears little resemblance to the rest of the country.

Back to the original post, we go to San Diego for a week every year. Our kids are now 3.5 and 6. Rent a condo somewhere near the beach, we always like Solana Beach and Dave Stubbs Realty, they have a ton of options. Solana Beach is near Del Mar. WE always do Legoland and one of the zoos and the beach. We also like Balboa Park in general (not just the zoo) and Old Town is nice. We also always do a day trip to Disneyland--it's under two hours to get there and worth it. It will likely be foggy so adjust your expectations accordingly.

Headquartering in San Diego will mean less driving, and there is plenty to do there. The beaches are wonderful if you want to intersperse some downtime in between the animal parks and touring.
San Diego Zoo
Wild Animal Park
Seaworld
are must visits.
A trip to Disney would be fun - and you could spend one night in Anaheim. I agree with the "Skip Tijuana" crowd. Mexico is wonderful to visit with childrn, but I'd pick a nonborder town.

The Del Coronado is a classic old hotel and has much to offer children. See reviews of it in familytravelforum.com, along with lots of other things to do in San Diego.

We spent 3 nights at the Del last week and it was very family oriented. They offer surf camps in the summer which sounds fun for families. The pool area is very family-friendly and there is also a nice little poolhouse there that sells all kinds of pool toys for the kids.

We wished we would have stayed here with our family when our kids were young. A truly amazing property that stands up to all of the rave reviews. They offer several packages on their website, we booked under the Winter Escape Package that included a $24 HOliday Ornament and a $20/day food certificate which we used on the breakfast buffet each morning at the Sheerwater there. Take them to Migeul's Cocina for a nice Mexican meal, it is located in the heart of the El Cordova Hotel courtyard. ***kim***

Helenmandy, San Diego is a great place for kids! However, it depends on what you want to do in LA. LA is great for adults. I don't think there are many kid friendly places in LA--having lived there, I can't think of any I would take my son. Of course, there's always Disneyland in Anaheim.

I would agree with MR as Dave Stubbs leased to my mama and papa for 25 years.
