San Diego Nights

I'm sure you guys will be thrilled to know what I'm very excited about my upcoming San Diego vacation in 2 weeks. Thanks to many people on the boards past and present, I've got a great list of activities for the day, places to eat, and I'm happy with my hotel. I'm so glad to have discovered such a great resource as you guys! I don't think 4 days is going to be enough, but that will just mean we'll be back.

I have one last piece of advice to ask you guys- and that's about nightlife. After we eat dinner, my group doesn't quite know what to do, and I'm not sure if we want to lounge around our hotel suite all night every night, it seems a waste. I did read the other post on San Diego nightlife, but not much is applicable because of the 5 of us in the group, 2 people are only 20 and we don't want to go out and leave them out every night. We want our margaritas but feel guilty.

Any advice on things we can do together? Something besides wandering the Gas Lamp Quarter, which I already have as a possibility, although specific recommndations in the Gas Lamp area would be welcomed. Remember we would have already eaten, though we could manage drinking (us legal ones) and possibly snacking on light food.

Hi orangemew,

A few ideas, some of which could even be combined:

How about getting a great dessert from a local bakery and setting up camp on a beach? If you don't want sand in your food, try the Embarcadero just south of Seaport Village, La Jolla Cove (very dramatic with the sound of the waves crashing up against the rocks), or the Coronado Ferry Landing, with a view of the skyline.

Walk through downtown Coronado and get an ice cream cone at Moo Town.

Ferry to/from Coronado for a breathtaking view of the skyline.

I love to stroll through Seaport Village at night, although I think most of the shops close around 9.

Balboa Park has an IMAX theater, if that would be of interest.

There are always terrific plays running at several venues throughout the county; specifically, Triple Espresso is a very funny ongoing show in the Gaslamp.

For something a little wacky you might consider Lips. It's a drag queen show north of downtown. I believe that if you have a dinner reservation, under 21's are allowed in with the group.

You'd want reservations anyway. It can get packed on a weekend night.

Don't know about an Imax theater but there's a "live" theater at Balboa Park fashioned to look like Shakespeare's Globe.

you can have fires on mission bay. there aren't too many pits though. rent roller blades and go along the boardwalk along pacific/mission beach.
