San Diego Hotel
Has anyone out there stayed at the Bahia Resort Hotel in Mission Bay, San Diego? We are going there for my Birthday and our Anniversary and after reading about some places not to go, I am wondering if this hotel is in a good neighborhood?

Good neighborhood? It's in the most touristy part of San Diego, right on Mission Bay and a pretty short walk to Mission Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Belmont Park, a small amusement park with a great rollercoaster, is nearby. The neighborhood is fine, but as in any beach/tourist area there can be problems with drinking, etc. There is a heavy police presence, on bicycles as well as more traditional types of police vehicles, to prevent any nasties from happening.
If you are very concerned about the area, and I don't think you need to be, then look at hotels in La Jolla.

Deendon,
Our family stayed at the Bahia in January 2004 and loved it. It is a lovely property, especially the pool area. We made reservations directly with the hotel and were automatically upgraded to a suite with a full kitchen. We found it centrally located and never worried one minute about the area. The concierge recommended Nick's as a good neighborhood restaurant which is very close. We enjoyed it so much that we went twice. As we understand it, the Bahia is locally owned by the same family who owns the Catamarran (sp?). I think you will be happy there, but as Barbara said, you may also want to check out hotels in LaJolla. LaValencia would be very special for a celebration.

Moldy - I'm really not sure. I do remember that I was chatting with him about how beautiful the property was and that we were from Baton Rouge. It was right after Christmas which is low season so maybe he had lots of flexibility. But you're right - it doesn't happen often but we sure will stay there each time we visit SD.
