San Diego downtown resorts

Hi, we're going to San Diego in April and are looking for a neat place to stay in downtown San Diego. We've narrowed our choice to either the Marriott Hotel & Marina or W San Diego Hotels. Now we're open to suggestions for others, but these look pretty cool. We are looking for a place that is different, has pool/spa amenities, restaurants, etc, with a proximity to Balboa Park, and other attractiions.
Any help/suggestions would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks.
Frank

An alternative might be Hotel Solamar. Right in the thick of things in the Gaslamp it looked pretty cool to me when I passed by. I haven't stayed there, but it seems to be a nice option. It is a Kimpton Hotel and looks quite stylish.

Sheraton On The Bay. It is right on the Embarcadero. We have stayed there twice and love it.

jamaltay,

as you already recommended the Sheraton on the Bay on another thread and local poster Barbara inquired about its location, I will add that I, too, am not aware of any such hotel.

The only Sheraton that has a Bayfront location would be the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Island. This, however is not right on the Embarcadero.

Would you care to explain or verify your information?

Are you sure you're not confusing the Sheraton with the Marriott. It has the same name and is located on W. Harbor Drive.

I've not stayed at the Marriot but right next door at the The Hyatt. Great location within close walking distance to The Gaslamp District, The Seaport Shops, Horton Plaza, the convention center, and Petco Park.

The Hyatt comes up on priceline quite often. Have you tried that route?

The only hotel "right on the Embarcadero" which also has "on the Bay" in its name is the Holiday Inn.

I am perfectly sure that I am not the one confusing things here. I know the Marriott and can tell the difference from the Sheraton on Harbor Island.

Thanks, Barbara!

Your word certainly means a lot out here!

hsv,

I totally screwed up. I am so embarrassed.
It's Holiday Inn at the Bay.
