Modern, comfortable hotels in San Diego and Palm Springs???
We will be staying for 2 nights in each place. Would like to be in a good location but will have a car.
Can spend approx $250 a night.
Where would you suggest?
Thanks
Donna

I'm a little hesitant to answer because I've never spent a night in a hotel in San Diego, I live here.
Many people seem to like staying downtown, and you could find a hotel there that fits your budget and most of them are modern hotels. The downtown and Gaslamp districts of San Diego have been rejuvenated in the past ten years. It used to be an area that most of us tried to avoid, but now it’s quite nice. It’s close to all the major attractions in San Diego. If the hotel doesn’t offer free parking, it might be a drawback. They might be a higher than your budget but you may get a really good deal on one if you tried Priceline.
Mission Valley has a lot of hotels and is centrally located. Handy if you have a car and I would imagine parking is included.
Before I stayed in Mission Valley, I would consider this hotel in San Diego-(but please, keep in mind that I've never stayed in Mission Valley.)
Homewood Suites San Diego Airport - Liberty Station. It’s in an area where it would be easy to find a variety of restaurants and it’s very new. Also, it’s central and close to the airport. You may even get a bay view if you book a room towards the top of the hotel. A simple room is around $200, look at the reviews on Tripadvisor.com
Hope you have a great time in SD.

For 250$ a night you have quite some choice. Go to spg.com (starwood's website) and you can check out prices.
Im going next week and paid $200 for the Sheraton San Diego and we're paying $79 for the Westin Mission Hills Resort which looks amazing in Palm Springs. They have a sale on now (or may have just finished)

The Holiday Inn Bayside in San Diego. We had a ships reunion there in 2004 just after it was renovated, and we were treated royally. Near the airport and close enough to everyting else.
If you stay downtown expect to pay parking fees.

I agree that the Omni is a great Downtown Hotel http://sandiego.nyctourist.com/omni-hotel-san-diego.php
I really like the beach feel of San Diego better myself and a little gem called Pacific Terrace is located just north of Pacific Beach (still central) http://sandiego.nyctourist.com/omni-hotel-san-diego.php
Have a great trip to San Diego! I'm sure you will love the city.

For Palm Springs
The Colony Palms
www.colonypalmshotel.com
or
Le Parker Meridian
www.theparkerpalmsprings.com
The Parker is a bit too far to walk to restaurants along Palm Canyon but is a bit nicer.
