Here’s a trip report for San Diego food from a couple years ago. No promises they’ll be in the areas of San Diego you’re asking about:

Hi taconictraveler,
I posted on another post but I copied here as well.
DH & I had dinner at The Spot a few years ago and the ambiance was nice - very casual and local. The location is good for a after dinner walk to Scripps Park and to view the sea lions at the La Jolla Cove. For desert if you like gelato/ice cream (organic and he uses local farms and fruits in season) I recommend Bobboi at 8008 Girard Ave (across the street from The Spot if you are heading down the hill to the Cove).

A long time favorite of ours is in La Jolla Shores called Piatti's.

Second my vote of Nanabee's for Chez Loma on Coronado and Piatti on La Jolla Shores; add to that Marine Room also at La Jolla Shores, prices steep, but show up for appys at happy hour bar at half the price of sitting at your dining table -- delicious fine dining. We always do The Cottage for breakfast or lunch in La Jolla, and in Del Mar (just north of La Jolla) Pamplemousse Grill has been serving it up for many (20+) years for a fine dinner. On Coronado and also on PCH 101 Delmar/Solana, be sure and go to Brigantine, another long-standing place, casual, never disappoints. Nanabee, we never got to Caroline's but "next time" for sure..... the grandkids keep us too busy!!

I hope you get back to San Diego soon aliced! Grandkids = a good busy!

You brought up some memories of restaurants I haven't been to for many years but are excellent - The Brigantine, Pamplemousse Grill and will have to make a special effort to go to the Marine Room (especially at high tide) they have a wonderful French chef.
