I'll be in San Diego in a couple weeks. Haven't been to Anthony's in over 15 years. Remember it being pretty good. If anyone has been there recently with a review, I'd sure like to hear about it.

It's still quite good, especially if you can snag a table by the windows. The chef has changed the make-up of the avocado-prawn salad a little, but it's still wonderful and our favorite spot for lunch.

Thanks for your reply, Underhill. I don't usually ask questions about restaurants, but it had been such a long time since I'd been there.

I seem to recall some sort of Navy ship or something next door that you could tour while waiting. Is that still there? I know my father (78) would really enjoy that.

It still was good about 2 years ago. Not quite as 'posh' as in the old days, but still nice. Definitely try to get a window table.

The Star of India is nearby, as well as a very interesting maritime museum and some other boats to tour.

I may be dating myself, but I ate here about 35 years ago for the first time. My father and I walked across on the ferry from Coronado and had lunch together. I'm not sure of the occasion..I was one of 4 children in a family that rarely ate "out", and I felt so special.

I remember the scallops as the most wonderful new food; started my love of seafood!

There are several Anthony's in the area. The Star of the Sea is the upscale one. Anthony's Grotto is the probably the one you're talking about as it's more of a family place. They also have a small one in Seaport Village. You might enjoy The Fishmarket which is several blokcs away. The gound floor has seating outside which is wonderful. They have a nice menu. I prefer this over Anthony's. Their upstairs, Top of the Market is more upscale, to and possibly only open for dinner.

You and your father might also enjoy taking a harbor tour; one leaves from a dock quite close to Anthony's.

We ate here in March. It seems to be still very popular. We were lucky to get a window seat. It was very good and reasonably priced. I think you will like it. Not wanting to date myself but I have also ate here about 35 years ago. It is old but maintains its popularity well.

I second Andeesue's recommendation of the Fish Market over Anthony's.

The Anthony's out in El Cajon/La Mesa is also quite good.
