We are planning a week long trip at the end of August to San Diego with an overnight in LA. Any ideas... We like chain hotels, prefer under $100, and just want a clean place to sleep. Looking at Comfort inn downtown and rodeway inn zoo in San Diego, but no one has mentioned them.
Any help would be great.

We are deciding how many days to rent a car for. Either 2 or 4 adults in 30's, probably just my husband and I.

It was not a chain hotel, but my family enjoyed the Balboa Park Inn last month. My parents had a regular hotel-type room. My husband, children, and I stayed in what turned out to be a fairly large one-bedroom apartment. Although I didn't consider it cheap, it was well-located, very comfortable, and we saved some money by having a kitchen to prepare some meals.

I like the Comfort Inn at Airport/Old Town on San Diego Ave. Within walking distance of Old Town restaurants. Good location for downtown, beaches etc.
Only 5 mins. walk to the Shakespeare Pub on India st. !
