San Diego

I need help with hotel recommendations. Our family of four plan are
going to Seaworld and SD Zoo and would like to stay near the beach. I would like to be closer to the beach, or located on the beach and would not mind a short drive to the attractions with 5 miles or so. I have only found one hotel "Pacific Terrace" which has very good reviews but is pretty costly and would like any recommendations to research. My price range is approx. $250/night max. Going spring break next year if that matters. THANKS!

I have stayed at the Best Western Blue Seas Lodge which is in Mission Beach area- the hotel is right on the beach- has a nice pool area with hot tub- good restaurant right across the street - the rooms were just your average Best Western but since we were only in the rooms to sleep were fine for us.
Also in Carlsbad- there is a Best Western Beach Terrace Inn that is right on the beach- have not stayed there but have walked around the property - and Carlsbad is a charming town to visit

Thanks for the recommendation. On the Best Western Blue Seas Lodge you mentioned that it is nothing fancy, however, is it clean? Personally, clean is more important to me than fancy. When traveling with kids, I would prefer practical accomodations but not rundown either.

Also check out the Ocean Park Inn in Pacific Beach. This hotel always gets rave reviews on this forum.

The Sea Lodge On La Jolla Shores beach is quite popular too.

Good luck. Enjoy San Diego once you get here!

In responce to ? of cleanliness of the
Bestwestern Blue Seas Lodge- I would say yes the rooms were clean -
I believe the last time I stayed there was 2 years ago and they were updating some of the rooms- putting in new carpet etc - I would not hesitate to stay there again

I think your family of four would enjoy The Ocean Park Inn which is just down from Pacific Terrace. Web site is www.oceanparkinn.com - What helps to keep your expenses down is the cost includes breakfast, juice, coffee and tea all day and more importantly FREE underground parking. See many reviews at www.tripadvisor.com

Also take a look at www.sandiego.org and click on hotels. Sometimes you can get this hotel at a reduced rate. Other offers are on this site, including coupons for many of the attractions.

Good luck and enjoy beautiful San Diego one of my favorite places.

Oops! Forgot to ask. Does anyone know about the Hotel LaJolla on the Shores located on Fay Ave. in LaJolla? There are a lot of mixed reviews on it.
