San Antonio restaurant recommendation

A friend of mine is getting married and is spending her honeymoon in San Antonio. I want to surprise her with a gift certificate to a restaurant in San Antonio as a wedding present. I've never been to San Antonio, though, so I'm not sure which restaurant to pick. I am looking for an upscale restaurant - something very romantic with excellent food (preferably no Mexican food). Her and her future husband do not drink alcohol, so should $100-120 do it for a gift certificate to cover appetizer, entrees, and dessert?

Polo's in the Fairmont Hotel is lovely, but you need more $ if you want to include wine too.

i would try biga on the banks. it is beautiful with great atmosphere and divine food. with no alcohol, it should fall within your price range.

Gourmet magazine rated La Reve in San Antonio as one of the top 50 restaurants in the U.S., but Fodors doesn't even mention it. Is this an accurate rating?

la reve is an outstanding, small restaurant that has won praise and awards from all over. i have no idea why fodors doesn't have it listed....it has been open more than 3 years. it is on a quiet part of the river. it is very expensive and because everything is prepared to order, it takes a while to dine there. some have complained of small portions at high prices. i have only eaten there once but it was wonderful. along with biga, it would be a fine choice.

I third Biga's but also suggest Grey Moss Inn. I don't know if they will have a car but is about a 30-40 minute drive outside of SA in the hill country. It is charming, romantic, the setting can't be beat and the food is great. There is outdoor as well and indoor dining. I loved sitting outside among the stars.

The Lodge at Castle Hills is the most romantic place by far. New & NICE!

Agree with all previous - La Reve, Biga on the Banks, Polo and especially Grey Moss Inn (if transportation isn't an issue). Another non-chain, non-Mexican cuisine place worth considering if they are at all "foodies" is Silo. It's in a not particularly attractive location (not dangerous, just not pretty) but is close to downtown and the food is excellent and should be within your proice range without alcohol. It's a mecca for SA area food devotees.
Given all these choices, I'd opt for Grey Moss Inn becasue it is such a romantic locale. Next choice Biga, then La Reve, then polo, then Silo.
