San Antonio on Christmas Day

We are thinking about going to San Antonio Christmas week. We are looking for something to do on Christmas Day. The only thing we found open was the Zoo.

We like to take photos of scenery. We have looked at some state parks in the area but they all involve hiking which we are not able to do.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where we can spend some time on Christmas Day?

We're going to be in Fort Worth on Christmas day, and the zoo is what we are planning. Beyond that it will depend on the weather but if nice maybe we'll just walk along the Trinity Trail, and will probably have dinner reservations somewhere that will be open.

Guess you could do something similar and stroll the Mission Riverwalk if the weather cooperates. A nice map can be found here:

Or, it looks like you can go to Walgreens!

Nelson thanks for the links. I had not found the trail map you had the link for.

I think we will bypass Walgreens.

Blanco State Park is about a 45 minute drive north on 281. Beautiful park that you can drive around, on the Blanco? River, nice scenery, if you want to drive further on 281, you will get to Johnson City - the light show is fantastic in that town. Also the San Antonio Riverwalk is beautiful to photograph.

rosewoodtx Thanks for the info on Blanco State Park. That is something that we will look into. Also Johnson City lights seem fantastic.

I met some really nice Fodorites from San Antonio when I was there in September - drop in on them. I will post a thread in the Lounge (I don't think you can post there) referencing this thread and hopefully they will have some suggestions.

There Texas Hill country has a "Regional Christmas Lighting Trail". See here:

My wife and I will spend a few days in Fredericksburg before we move on to San Antonio and are looking forward to seeing some of the lights in the area, especially Johnson City.

I did check and the LBJ ranch is closed Christmas Day. But still could be worth a drive up there for you. Have fun.
