San Antonio at Xmas and New Year's

Just wondering how crowded San Antonio's Riverwalk is during the week between Xmas and New Year's.

Because of holiday parties and events downtown it is certainly busier than usual at night, but magical! Beautiful time of year to be downtown.

We were in San Antonio Dec. 26-29, 2002 (Christmas before last). The River Walk was absolutely mobbed every minute of every day. They host a college bowl game (the Fiesta Bowl?), so that really adds to the crowds. We waited to take our river barge trip until during the game, thinking it would be less crowded, but it wasn't.

The Riverwalk is, however, very very beautiful decorated for the holidays. Also, if you get away from the Riverwalk to see other things, the crowds diminish.

Make hotel reservations early, because the rooms book quickly due to the bowl game.

Missypie refers to the Alamo Bowl which is scheduled for Dec. 29 this year. You can check out the following website for more holiday events http://www.sanantoniocvb.com/visitor...darHoliday.asp

Thank you all so much for your replies. I have reservations on the Riverwalk for Dec 27th - 30th. Really just wanted to relax and look at the lights so our room has a balcony. Thanks again
