San Antonio Airport Taxi to Majestic... and Food Suggestions??
we are off to san antonio and will be staying right next to the majestic theater. anyone out there taken a taxi from the airport to the Riverwalk area? About how much will it cost, or are there better shuttle alternatives for 2 people?
also... if you happen to know a great place in the area (walk or easy public transport) for mexican, ribs or other favs, will you please chime in?? would love suggestions.

From the airport just take a taxi - won't be much more than 2 shuttle fares.
For the best Mexican/Tex Mex in the downtown area hit Rosario's - bit of a stroll or easy cab ride. If you are after bbq/ribs walk to the Hyatt Regency's Q restaurant (not the Grand Hyatt.) Alternatively, hop on a river taxi and go to the Pearl and hit the Granary for BBQ that is getting rave reviews even from finicky foodies. Closer to your hotel is Luke, a John Besh restaurant that also gets great reviews.

thanks so much for this, seamus... we had seen that the shuttle was $17 each, so were thinking that a taxi was probably not much more.
'water taxi to the pearl'... i had no idea you could take a water taxi that far. how great.. and will look into this. total newbie for san antonio.
your recommended 'luke' has a good happy hour mentioned in yelp.... do you happen to know whether it's just m-f ??
thanks again

Sorry don't know about Luke's happy hour - but you can email them from their page http://lukesanantonio.com/contact
The river taxi to the Pearl stops running about 9, I think, so you would need to cab it back downtown if you are there for dinner after that. Also a great place to visit daytimes. The bakery operated there by the Culinary Institute is like a slice of Paris! Depending when you are here the weather may be nice enough for a bike ride using one of the B cycle shared bikes (https://sanantonio.bcycle.com/home.aspx)

reporting in... the taxi ride was only $28 form airport to majestic theater. it was definitely cheaper for the 2 of us to take a taxi than a shuttle.
seamus... your recommendation for 'luke' was great.. the perfect start to our trip. we hit happy hour (3-6) and the amazing oysters (served beautifully) were 50cents each!!! added some good drinks and a salad off the regular menu... it was a feast!
granary was good... we loved the pearl area. it's like a town-within-a-town.
we made it out to the hill country.... hit the 'welfare cafe' in the middle of nowhere-in-particular and it was delicious, fresh and innovative german food. also couldn't resist a stop in luckenback for some music... sunday is 'picker's day' and it was free and 4 different and wonderful musicians played.
we really loved san antonio. hope to return one day.
