San Antonio

Please give me any advice on a first timer to San Antonio. I would like names of hotels that would be inexpensive and in a good location to getting around to places as we will not have a car.

Hi blu, what part of San Antonio are you planning on visiting? What do you consider to be inexpensive? If you are staying downtown there are a lot of good choices but a price range always helps. There have been recent discussions regarding San Antonio hotels so you may want to begin with a search on this site.

Do a search on the site and you'll find lots of tips about San Antonio. There are lots of chain hotels downtown to choose from, but be advised that the ones right on the Riverwalk are not inexpensive.

I highly recommend getting a car for at least one day and doing the Mission Trail just South of downtown. The original 6 missions that founded San Antonio (the Alamo is one of them) are all in the National Park Service's care and there is an excellent visitor center and museum at San Jose.

blu: Just a forum procedure hint-- you do not need to post your question multiple times. Give people time to respond (at least several hours) and if no response then send your post to the top by responsing to your own post with the message "ttt" (to the top).

I'm assuming you want to stay near the Riverwalk. I've stayed at The Hampton Inn at 414 Bowie, and it's reasonably priced and within walking distance. Be prepared for a basic room - but clean.

Marriot Rivercenter is very convenient -- adjacent to a mall right on the riverwalk. I wouldn't pay rack rates for this hotel -- look for a deal through hotwire or hotelkingdom.

I would also recommend the Emily Morgan -- great location and atmosphere though a bit higher in price.
