If you can catch the rehearsal for the Tabernacle Choir, it's a great free option. Next time I'm in the area I'm headed out to Sundance. I'm sure I'll just bump into Robert Redford while I'm there Seriously, I want to see Sundance.

Visiting the Tabernacle is interesting even without the choir. It's an amazing building architechturally. They just finished restoring/earthquake proofing it. It was closed for a couple years.

Now, I don't remember hearing if the Capitol is finished with earthquake proofing. It's been under scaffolding for a couple of years too. Hopefully, it's done because it's really beautiful inside, and outside the view at night is awesome.

Yes, it REALLY uphill from the Trax line, Meyer.

This little overnight stop in Salt Lake is becomming quite a production.

Dayle, I just called the Capitol Building and they say the building will definitely be open beginning in Jan '08. Since I'll be there in May this looks good.

The Temple Square gates open at 7AM and the Capitol Building at 8AM.

The Temple Sq sights open at 9AM.

Ok.

It looks like either wander thru Temple Sq between 7:30 & 8AM and then taxi up to the Capitol Bldg or go directly up there (depending on the time).

Then back down to Temple Sq until almost 10AM and hustle back to get the car and over to the airport.

Then begin to write the trip report on the plane.

I have never used a taxi in Salt Lake, but I'm not too sure it will be all that easy to get one to take you to the Capitol and then pick you up and take you back. I've certainly never noticed taxis that you can just flag down in Salt Lake.

I still think if you're going to the Capitol you should take your own car and then park near Temple Square. http://www.lds.org/events/parking/0,8203,717-1,00.html#

I can see taking a taxi up the hill and walking back down.

What's the problem getting a taxi? Do they not pick up on the street?

Myer, where are you from? There are a lot of cities without roaming taxis just waiting to be flagged down. One option is to go to a hotel and they will call for one if there isn't a taxi line waiting.

Myer,

The only place I ever see taxis waiting is at the airport. Other than that, you need to call for one. I would take a cab number with you and call on a cell phone for pick up. It will probably take about 10 minutes for them to come to you in the downtown area.

Obviously, taxis are not a standard form of transportation here!

The only place I've been to that I noticed taxis not picking people up in mid-block is Paris.

We were just in NYC anf Philadelphia and saw taxis roaming all over.

We live near Ft Lauderdale and there are always taxis around and in Miami. I think. Don't take taxis very often.

Ok they. If I take the car, will I have an issue parking near the capitol and/or Temple Sq?

Ok then.

What about taking the #23 bus up the Hill?

Does it stop near the Trax stop?

According to the UTA website http://www.rideuta.com using trip planner - your best route to the Capitol is #500
