Salmon to go ?

Is it possible to have fresh fish packed-to-go at the Pike Market ? A friend asked us to bring one back for her, and, I believe, the sockeye is now running. Would be nice, but is this possible ?

Hell yes. Several of the fishmongers will pack fresh fish in dry ice for shipment. Bring money.

The vendors at Pike Market will gladly (for a cost) either ship your purchase or pack it "to go" with enough cooling to preseve the contents for one or more more days. The more the days, the higher the price.

Just be aware that you can't bring dry ice on a commercial flight without some sort of hazmat declaration. Tell them you want to bring it on a plane and they'll probably use those blue plastic things or ice in a ziploc bag.

We bring salmon back from Pike Market every year. We always use Pure Fish (about mid market). Tell them you want it packed for the plane. I'd also recommend you taste their fire smoked salmon. This stuff is fantastic. If they have smoked ivory salmon when you are there, I definitely recommend that. This can also be packed for the plane. It keeps up to two weeks in the frige and 6 months in the freezer.
