Safety at Night

Washington DC is part of a road trip my wife and I will be taking next month. We are staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites, Arlington, VA. We plan on using the Metro to visit the various places except for the boat ride to Mt Vernon. We will also use the Metro to get us to restaurants in both DC and Arlington. We fly into DC and will start the road trip renting a vehicle after a four day visit to the Capitol.

We don't go to bed early and we usually eat supper late. Now safe is it around the Court House, Clarendon, & Rosslyn Stations located in Arlington at night? Also walking as a couple, what about safety concerns visiting the various monuments in DC and Arlington at night?

Thank you.

I can't speak to the safety at the metro stations late at night, but we visited the monuments after dark last week and there were plenty of people out and about, including several tour groups.

All of stations are perfectly safe. I assume you are staying in the Hampton Inn near National Airport, which isn't really close to Clarendon or Court House.

Thanks for the info.

MikeT I am staying at the Hampton you mentioned. There appear to be restaurants located near those two Metro stations and am planning to take the Metro to those locations if it's safe at night. They are too far to walk to but it appears to be just a short ride by the Metro.

There are also plenty of restaurants near your hotel in Crystal City and Pentagon City. You are also closer to Old Town Alexandria (King Street Metro) than you are Clarendon.

Thanks Mike I will check out King Street Metro. Do you have any dining recommendations for Crystal City, Pentagon City, and King Street Metro station. Doesn't have to be fancy, just good with reasonable price.

Mike, does the King Street trolley (the free one) run at night?

Old Town Alexandria is a good place to go at night and wander about.

Thank you Mike and Russ. I did not know where Alexandria was located until now. I thought it was on the other side of the river and didn't bother to investigate. I was looking at the Metro map going north to Arlington and then over to DC.

I brought up oodles of info on Alexandria on the internet and indeed we will be heading down there. It has been included in our itinerary for sightseeing and dining.
