Sacramento GTG November 16 Sunday lunch

We'll be there by noon, for a lunch stop only, is there a nice enough place for us to meet close to Amtrak station (the address is I street @ 5th street), and we won't have a car.

how long will you have in town? There are all sorts of places w/i walking distance just next to the station in Old Sacramento.

But depending on how many others are meeting up I could pick you up in the car and then we could manage just about anywhere.

I am exhausted trying to find a restaurant within walking (for us) distance from Amtrak station! Need local help as not all places have hours posted. We are scheduled to arrive at 11.55, but the bus usually comes in a little earlier, safe to say we’ll meet at noon. This is where I am now:

Lotus Restaurant 425 J Street, rave reviews on Yelp, is it opened for Sunday lunch? Can somebody local call please 916-448-5568 (I don’t like phone conversations because of my accent)

India Restaurant 729 J Street – opened Sunday from noon, “hole in the wall” with good food according to Yelp 916-448-9046

Tokyo Restaurant 428 J Street Ste 100 cannot find any info on websites, maybe out of business? Who knows! 916-447-7788

Why are all the above on J Street? Is this the Sacramento Restaurant Row? OK, no more humor.

Rio City, Fat City – those look too far on the map, is there a walking shortcut under Hwy 5?

HEEELLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP

Janis, we'll have 3-4 hours between buses. Maybe 5. Amtrak is flexible, you miss one train, get on the next one The seats are not reserved.

Most of the places in Old Sacramento are actually closer to the station/tracks than those places on J street - and Tokyo has been closed for quite while.

I'm pretty sure Lotus would not be open on a Sunday - but everything in Old Sac will be. Old Sac is really right next to the tracks - if you have a map, you come out next to the rail road museum . No need to walk around to J/K streets to get there.

I am totally surprised India is open on Sundays - but it would be farther to walk than Old Sac. (and "hole in the wall" definitely describes it)

But heck - I can pick you up at the station and we can drive around the block and park in Old Sac if that becomes a problem.

There is a parking lot a block from Rio City - and they even do valet parking. Same w/ the Delta King - though Rio City would be better. There is also Fat City which is really good and closer to Amtrak.

In fact I can park in the back lot at Amtrak and ferry you over to Rio City in about 2 minutes.

That sounds great.

I'll book - might not be necessary but being Sunday and them having brunch and lunch it might be a good idea. But I'll wait til around the first of the month to see if any other lurkers are joining us

Faina: Didn't I see that you are going on an RCL cruise through the Panama Canal early next year? Mr. Barb and I went through the Canal last year on RCL's Serenade. You will love it. Best cruise we ever went on (I've been on about 17 cruises).

See you on Nov. 16!

MichelleY: "Fat City closed up . . . "

It was California Fats that closed up. Fat City is still open - but we're going to Rio City Cafe . . . .

LOL Janis, no changes!!

It's Rio at noon, be there or be square

Janis, the Amtrak station is on the way for Robin to pick us up, besides she'd done that in the past, so she knows where to park, where to wait... so it may be easier for her. Thank you for the offer, and I'll send you my cell phone number just in case, closer to the GTG.
