I will tell you this--I had some friends visiting this summer and we wanted to go to a luau. I felt too lazy to drive all the way out to Germaine's or Paradise Cove, but the Royal Hawaiian Luau was the only one in Waikiki that I could find! I have heard that it's pretty good....but isn't it only available certain days of the week? Their website should have all the costs.

I hesitate to be negative since we went many years ago. It was a splurge for a special anniversary. I did not think it was worth the money it cost. We may have been swayed by our tight budget. I don't think Oahu is the best place to go to a luau. Our favorite was on Kauai. I would rather take in some of the free shows and spend the $ on a nice dinner than the RH luau. If it was the only island I would be visiting (for awhile) I would do it (depends on your situation). We really prefer the Outrigger on the Beach nextstore, these days.

I went about a year ago. The seating was on long tables and the food was basic for luaus. The only thing I didnt like was it is first come first served. You need to get down there at least 45 minutes early to get a good seat.
Stop at the bar, grab a drink for the wait.
I would highly reccomend having drinks in the Banyon court a few doors down at the Moana Surfrider. That is where we stayed and it is great!

I second the recommendation to skip the luau and go to the Banyan at the Sheraton Moana also.
We stayed there in March - many nights we just grabbed a table by the water, ordered pu-pu's and a cocktail and watched the sunset. Also, the Moana has a Hawaiian band playing - and a lady dancing - so you can get some of the Hawaii atmosphere. All in all - it's a little slice of heaven on Oahu!
