Royal Gorge

Has anyone stopped here and it is wort ha stop or is it just a tourist place that is not worth the time and money. We do not have kids so we do not need an amusement park but if the gorge is really great, then we would be interested in stopping.

I think it is worth the stop but "here's a secret", as they say on the Travel Channel---you can park, walk up to the edge and look over without having to pay the high price they charge just to walk across the bridge.

Now, if you like heights, they do have a tram you can ride across. I did it when I was around 15 and have been scared of heights ever since!!

In my opinion not worth the money - after our visit there we call it the "Royal Gouge"

Ha-kcinmo-hilarious! I would say the ONLY way to see the gorge is to raft beneath it...the best rafting in Colorado...but its probably not one of your options-just thought I'd mention it!

I live in Canon City and have never understood why they charge so blasted much, except to say that people are apparently willing to pay it. To be honest, we only go to the bridge when they have an occasional "free" day for local residents. The bridge is spectacular to be sure, and there is the aerial tram across the gorge that I would ony ride if my life depended on it. They just added something called a SkyCoaster this year. It is a State Fair type slingshot ride that, at it's apex puts the riders out over the gorge nearly 1,200 feet over the river. The incline ride to the bottom is pretty exciting too. You might check out www.royalgorgebridge.com and see if you think it is worth the $$$.

Whitewater rafting on the Arkansas is certainly an option, although the bridge is but a speck in the sky when you go beneath it.

Have you read anything about the Royal Gorge Route railroad, a train ride through the Gorge using restored locomotives and passenger cars. They have gourment lunch and dinner rides that have been getting rave reviews. Their website is http://www.royalgorgeroute.com/

Write if I can answer any questions.

If you like train rides, I would take the train from Canon City which goes underneath the bridge. Once you are done, it's a short drive to the bridge which is neat to see but definitly not worth the price to walk over it.
