Overnight on the Columbia Gorge
We are trekking around through Oregon and Washington in June (territory we have mostly covered before but looking for new directions and overnights). Is there anyplace really spectacular to overnight, either on Oregon or Washington side of the river along the Columbia River Gorge? We tried the Best Western at Hood River but they are fully booked on our date.
Thanks for any input.

The Columbia Gorge Hotel in Hood River is a popular place, noted for huge breakfasts. Skamania Lodge in Stevenson, Washington is another nice place with spectacular gorge views. I'm sure both of these places have web sites. Good luck, and happy planning!

Hood River is a good place to stay. It's a nice little town with several dining options.
Check out the "Fruit Loop" drive out of Hood Rover which affords great views of Mt. Hood.
Another great drive is up the river to the bridge that crossed over to Maryhill, WA, and then to drive back to the Hood River Bridge on the Washington side. There is an interesting museum and a winery in Maryhill.

We really enjoy the Columbia River Gorge Hotel. www.columbiagorgehotel.com It's a gorgeous property and the Farm Country breakfast served there is very, very good. Have fun! ***kim***

Another idea is the Edgefield in Troutdale - its at the end of the Gorge- close to Portland and airport- but it is a very fun place to stay - has a winery/ brewpub/ theatre/ good restaurant/ entertainment/ outdoor barbecues /
Many years ago it used to be the "poor House" then a nursing home - now remodeled and filled with whimsical art -
